Did you guys know that Joe was a forward with the hapless Washington Generals basketball team, (the proverbial losers to the Globetrotters) ? He wore black nylon socks to his knees and Birkenstocks. He highlighted his accomplishments as "a baller" and added, "those boys were a reaaaallll credit to their race " while he remembered slam dunking in MLK's face in 1962....
Joey was the one who talked MLK in to being an activist. Joey picked MLK up when he was hitch hiking down the road. That was back when Joey was driving 18-wheelers coast to coast.
It took me years to understand that my mom and dad were teaching us Dr. King's message before were old enough to know who he was, and why he is important. I really think society would be better today if he and Malcolm had not been assassinated.
