Maryland Historic Motor Vehicle Registration - PSARecently the Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase of use and complaints regarding vehicles unlawfully displaying historic registration.#Maryland Transportation Title 13 Section 936 states:“To be registered as a historic vehicle (Class L), the vehicle must be a passenger vehicle, motorcycle or truck (with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less); 20 calendar years old or older and must not have been substantially altered, remodeled or remanufactured from the manufacturers original design.” A vehicle registered as historic “will not be used for general daily transportation,#or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways.” A vehicle registered as historic “will be maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, occasional transportation and similar uses.”
The fee to register and tag a vehicle as a “historic” vehicle is substantially less than the regular registration and tag fee for a passenger vehicle. A recent trend, in an attempt to circumvent the system and avoid paying standard registration and tag fees, is to register a vehicle as “historic” and then operate the “historic” vehicle for general daily use and/or passenger transportation in clear violation of Maryland Transportation law.

“Unlawful use of historic motor vehicle for general transportation,#commercial transportation of passengers or property” carries $140.00.

:coffee: yeah!!!! about time..... stop all the WORTHLESS POS out there from getting Historic tag.....

glad they will be cracking down FINALLY!!!!!!! :buddies::yahoo:

u can....

I will get them on my camaro in 9 years..... but just drive it on the weekends....

thing is ... all the cheap arse people getting the beaters and even the welfare suckers getting them driving them all day and all night while the REST of us have to pay the real price to drive

driving to and from drug deal.... drinking and driving... committing crimes...
the least they could do is pay full price for tags... seeing they can buy drugs, go out and get drunk, and steal :coffee:

thing was...you may never have looked for them...or paid attention

As many classic vehicles as I own..I tend to spot them.:buddies: One of mine even carries the coveted "Historic Permanent" tag..the one that never has to be renewed, ever.

Can't say I've ever noticed that many vehicles running those tags.

I have, this mornings was an crappy old white GMC van with a couple of ladders hanging out of the back hole where a window once was. The odds that he was going to a car show are pretty slim.

:killingme:killingme Ya think?

Yeah..that's definitely not right.

I have several 60s and 70s vintage vehicles that I keep regular tags on even though I don't actually drive them much at all and they easily qualify for the Historic tags.

I wish you could get the 'historic' tags to mirror the period the historic car was built. The ones I have seen are just the standard tags with 'historic' at the bottom.

As long as you have a second vehicle that could be your daily driver, how much LE time is it worth to prove?

they can see if you have another vehicle registered when they pull up you 411...

and seeing that I have 3 vehicles ... and my insurance company gives me a good rate cuz my camaro is not my primary ride. I do give them milage each time I renew.

~LEGS FOR DAYS~
I've noticed a Toyota Camry that I seem to get behind quite often on the way to work with these "historic" tags. Car actually looks pretty decent. But as someone else stated, I highly doubt this person is taking it to a car show.

In My Opinion
Day after I got my Historic plates for my Town Car, I got t-boned by some ass wipe teen.
totalled both cars.

Still have the tags.. just dont have anything to put them on.

Maybe I can staple them to the back of my mother in laws head.
