Most online forums are open to the public, meaning we don't do background checks before we let someone register for a user name and start posting. Plus, people do not have to register in order to read posts. Therefore a little common sense is in order when posting on a public forum:
  1. Don't give out personal information online, such as phone numbers, addresses, etc.
  2. Do not meet with strangers alone in a secluded setting. Get a group together or meet in a public place.
  3. Be aware that others may misrepresent themselves and not be who they claim to be.
  4. Trust your intuition. If someone seems "not right", they probably aren't.
  5. Avoid sexually provacative language and behavior.
  6. Be wary of posting your own picture and especially pictures of your children.

That said, you can meet persons of poor character anywhere, not just on the internet. You can meet them at a bar, through friends, at work or even at church. You can enjoy the forums and make some good friends here, just use the same common sense you'd use in any other venue.

I wonder whatever happened to HollywoodFred. It seems he is no long on the sex offender list. I presume he died?

This tread was started a bit before my time - so I don't know some of the posters. (*I lurked a full year before even registering and even then, I was a once-in-awhile poster for a little longer.)

But good advice, still - heck yeah!

No chit. I never understand how everyone gets these photos of strangers on the internet, or even their real names. Blackdog - I don't know him from Adam. Don't even know his real name, and the only personal information I have is what he has posted on here himself. So how did She Who Shall Not Be Named get a pic of him and his son? How did anyone get a photo of her, for that matter?

Am I just not batty enough to participate in internet relationships??? :jameo:

I posted the pic of myself and my neighbor ( it's not my son ) doing a shot at our local Eagles, no name has posted pictures of herself and Super Shoes along with addresses and phone numbers occasionally, during her early AM posts and then deletes them when she realizes what she has done. Her last posted picture was a Christmas pic with SS sitting on a fireplace hearth.
