"Makes me wanna pay the toll in all pennies to atleast the toll booth attendent gets to share in my unhappiness."

And when you do this I hope the tool booth attendant makes you pull over to the side and wait while all your pennies are counted.

You have a good day.

That would be discrimination, Are pennies not considered money any more?

pennies are considered U.S currency.
Yes they would have to take them
And it would be possible to file charges for being detained without cause should you pay with them.

how is it without cause? I would assume that if you paid with any for of valid currency it would be the toll operators duty to ensure that you had paid the correct amount before allowing you to proceed. After all, I would assume it would be their butts on the line if their drawer does not have the correct amount in it at the end of the day. how else are they ascertain if you have paid in full other than to count it?

It was a hypothetical scenario and the other person said if "they made you pull over to the side". It would be completely different if they were just counting them but to make you pull off and wait until someone would be able to count them.

I am not sure if they take checks or not but last time I crossed I asked if they took credit cards (I had cash in my hand out the window and was waiting for them to take it) they were being slow so I thought it would be a good time to ask. Person responded very rudely about how they didn't and it was cash only. You would think it would not be that hard to take credit cards.

you would still have to charge more than what a crossing on the bridge would be.

Sure, but think about the savings in gas and wear and tear on your vehicle, not to mention the aggravation and hours of the drive.

Not to downplay this at all, but from my point of view, it's a drop in the bucket increase.

Costs me $65 to go to NY and back, most of that are from the $9 and $12 tolls getting thru NJ and NY.

Just be REALLY REALLY glad no one is proposing a toll for the TJB.

Really? Really? This is your logic? Thats like saying getting robbed three times in MD isn't so bad because if I go to NY or NJ I will get robbed 5 times so I should be thankful that I only get robbed three times in MD.

This Sh.. has got to stop. All it is, is a way for O'mally to feed the people of P.G. County and Baltimore City. One Entitlement after another. Makes me sick!!

We should be rioting in the streets of Annapolis. Had Maryland even so much as set aside 1 dollar for every vehicle that crossed that bridge they would already have no less than 8.6 million in the "replace bridge" account. Wasn't maintenance for the bridge the reason given for the toll to begin with? It should be illegal that they can raid earmarked funds like that...:bs:

Funds lacking for Maryland-Virginia bridge replacement - WTOP.com

"The next step is going to be a little while in the coming," says Harold Bartlett, who runs the Maryland Transportation Authority, the agency that operates the bridge. "We don't really have funding planned for the replacement of the bridge, nor are funds immediately identified or available for that."

A six-year environmental study was completed last month on how to replace the 72- year-old bridge, a project that would cost about $850 million.

According to Bartlett, one possibility for funding the project could come from a few different federal agencies interested in helping to replace the bridge.

The Maryland Transportation Authority says that 6.8 million cars cross the Harry Nice Bridge every year.
