Massive goldfish discovered in South Carolina lake

My husband had one in a good size aquarium, I think our granddaughter won it at the fair one year. It grew to be huge!! I read somewhere, they grow as big as the tank allows. It wasn't 9 lbs, but, I'd bet it weighed a good 4 - 5 lbs.

happy to be living
My husband bought some cheap goldfish at a big box pet store when we bought this house 5 years ago. There is a plastic pond in the yard. They have reproduced over the years and I have given a few away to another pond owner. The largest one is easily 6-7" long and huge and a few are not too far behind in size. I got overruled since I wanted to dig the pond out. They have an expensive filter, get fed daily when warm and have a heater in the winter and places to hide. We also quite a few frogs that hang out there, too.

Just sneakin' around....

Always amazes me that a frog, who needs water to survive, manage to find backyard ponds in the middle of nowhere. One pond I made was at least 5 miles from any other source of natural water, but the frogs still show up.

They need water to breed, not live in.

They also follow the food source.
