You mean those tsunami sirens they test once a week and all the locals ignore? Yeah, that would have worked. Besides, the evacuation path for tsunami's is up hill, directly onto the fire. There are/were no sirens to evacuate for fires.Hell, if they would have activated the emergency notification sirens they probably could have saved a few lives.

My brother would visit that area once a year to scuba dive. He has a lot of old time friends living there and told me a lot of the residents are retirees that are so used to the sirens they sleep through them. The people who went into the ocean had the right idea, but 80 MPH winds made the air like a blast furnace , even out in the water.

My thoughts exactly. The sirens, if activated, should have had everyone looking for a problem on the water, not a fire.Besides, the evacuation path for tsunami's is up hill, directly onto the fire. There are/were no sirens to evacuate for fires.

Biden's Handlers Rush to Clean-Up His Stunning 'No Comment' Answer on Maui Fire
I'll save you the rest of the thread, as it's just a rehash of the federal government's response, but given the detail, does anyone really believe Biden wrote it? This is a man who, just hours earlier, was basically laughing at questions about Maui and refusing to interact with the press, even if just to say "we mourn the losses." Then suddenly an X thread appears expressing sympathy. I mean, come on. We all know who actually wrote that, and we know why it was written.
The real Biden is the Biden who is in the video clips. He's the Biden who has no sense of timing and doesn't show an ounce of care about anyone but himself and his political stature. Imagine a world in which George W. Bush had said "No comment" when asked about visiting New Orleans after Katrina. Heck, I'm old enough to remember when the younger Bush finished reading a story to children after 9/11 so as not to scare them and the press spent eight years claiming it showed a lack of empathy.
Of course, no member of the press seems to care at all about the current president being an aloof sociopath that vacations during national emergencies while trolling reporters as people perish. Funny how the standards change depending on which party the current president belongs to.
Ours out here are spun for one revolutiion every Fri at noon. For your consideration ...
Well, typically, emergency siren testing goes on for about 2 - 3 minutes then stops. If activated during an emergency, they would be blaring for quite a while which people would notice as the real thing then begin to take action. In this case nothing happened. No warning was given.
Are their tsunami sirens different from the civil defense ones like the ones for calvert cliff?news reported yesterday the emergancy system directs people to the TV to see whats going on
It sounds one if by land, two if by sea.Are their tsunami sirens different from the civil defense ones like the ones for calvert cliff?
Do the local counties have easy access to the emergency broadcasting system so I can use my hand cranked radio?Meanwhile the fires melted the power lines. Not many hand crank operated tv's out there
Guess they should have kept the missle warning guy.It sounds one if by land, two if by sea.
You say "they test them once a week" - funny the Maui site says the test is once a month at 11:45AM on the first state workday of the month and they only go off for 60 seconds, unlike a true emergency when they sound for 3 to five minutes and then repeat - sourceYou mean those tsunami sirens they test once a week and all the locals ignore? Just read that the Maui fire chief and the Emergency Management official were off island at the time, wonder who was filling in, if anyone.
And such a simple thing that shouldn't have required any political handwringing.
