Maytag refrigerator, side by side

Have the Plummer replace the plastic hose with a copper hose the same size. The plastic hoses have a much smaller inside diameter and will not let enough water in the icemaker. Copper hoses have larger inside diameters and will let in more water, especially if you are on a well and have lower water pressure.

The plastic hoses will also develop small pinhole leaks over time and cause water damage to your house before you can find the problem.

It all happened to us and copper piping solved all the problems.

Supplement with a bag of ice from the local liquor store until your gets going. It takes a while. I LOVE my icemaker.
Well how long did yours take to "get going?" This has been hooked up since noon, yesterday. We tossed the first 12 hours of ice, as recommended, and right now, the ice bucket is 1/2 full.

That sounds about right. Let it make ice tonight, all night. Check in the a.m. If it isn't full, there is probably a problem.

In My Opinion
check to see if the water filter is properly installed on the back of the unit, and check to make sure the water supply valve on the back is open all the way.

I don't think copper tubing is what you want to do NP. I would think that would make it difficult to roll out from the wall so you can clean behind it. A few times rolling out and back and the copper tubing will break won't it? That is why the plastic tubing is used now a days.

Since it dispenses ice cubes, crushed ice and water from the same location, I would make a guess that it works how it is suppose to. And if your not happy with that, then return it if it's that important.

I have someone coming tomorrow morning. He said the plastic will be fine, but he is changing the connection spot under the sink with something else. He said "saddle valves are always a PITA."

Do you have a well? I would guess low water pressure, we have the same problem with ours, we just live with it.
No well. City water.
You guys & gals are awesome! Thanks everyone for your clues. :huggy:

That is one thing I will never have. My mother has one, and it "spits" out ice (all over the floor, on my hand and in the drain) half might make it into the glass. It has for 10 years, and apparently that is normal. Useless feature, IMO, and just something else to break. Unfortunately, that is the only way to get ice when I visit her.

I like my regular refrigerator with the icemaker in the freezer. :yay:

Good luck! :huggy:
Yep, I've walked in the kitchen on numerous occasions and stepped on a maverick ice cube.

Shuckies! The plastic hose on my fridge developed a leak during dinner tonight. We abandoned dinner and Bubba stormed out of here to go to Lowe's. Luckily the water leak ran on top of the linoleum toward the stove, versus into the floorboards where we might not have noticed.

I have a Maytag side-by-side that sounds almost exactly like yours, except mine is about 5 years old. I have plastic tubing for the fill and it's never given me a bit of problem. It does dispense ice slowly if the tray is not very full, but it fills up quickly. I also have well water and have never installed the filter in it because my water is so clean.

I wish I could tell you what's wrong, but your 'fridge definitely isn't working right. I hope they find out what the malfunction with it is.
