MD and SBA Relief Grants

I'm guessing you aren't protected from your unemployment tax rates rising due to claims, right? Is there relief from that?

Good point. I haven't seen anything regarding specific UE tax relief, but MD allows you to request a review of your rate so hopefully when the dust settles businesses will be able to get a review and some leniency and not stuck at 7.5%.

From past experiences with people drawing unemployment- it definitely jacks up your rates for two years.

For sure, but with the changing of provisions surrounding COVID-19, I'm wondering if the state will stand firm with jacking the rates up based on something even they acknowledge is unprecedented and largely not under the control of business owners. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Anyone else get denied Maryland's Small Business Emergency Relief Grant Funding ($10,000)?

You got denied? Did they say why?

Because I'll tell you straight up, we've applied for all the grants and payroll loans and what have you and heard nothing back yet. I wouldn't put it past these people to distribute the money to their cronies and screw everyone else. Can you tell I don't trust my government?

I'd like to hear from someone who has been approved and received the funds.

Sounds like you forgot to rent an Annapolis Democrat this year.

Better get that bag of cash in their freezer in a hurry.

They did not say why.

There is a certain amount of money and I'm sure there's an unspoken rule that money should go to larger employers, but that's just my opinion.

Yes it was emailed. Applied a few days ago. It was almost immediately denied.

I'm not the one applying. This is all my wife's company.

Bummer. I am hearing the Payroll Protection Plan is a mess as well. Lotta people getting denied. Banks are backing out due to no guarantees from the Treasury Dept...

Friend of mine runs a club in Baltimore... 15 years, impeccable record, no debt, yet his bank (Bank of America) won't approve because he never took a loan out in the past with them.

That's shitty, but not totally surprising given BoA.

I don't think she's gone through the PPP yet.

Even more reason all this stimulus money should go directly to the people and not letting the same ****ers that screwed it all up in 2008 decide who gets the loot.

Best of luck with everything for anyone else going through this. If it's as remotely stressful as it's been for our household, I empathize with you.

I'm in that boat too. 21 years operating current business and never borrowed money. Might come back to bite me now. Company D&B and my personal credit score are both good though...be interesting to see what happens.

I'm expecting mine to bounce too..because of the "lack" of proof of business loss or interruption. It's not that it cannot be solidly proven..it's just not provable in a way that fits in their simple little application.

I just minutes ago got a phone call and email from Suntrust about the PPP. They still have not received required guidance and financial guarantees or whatever that they need from SBA. They are, however, proceeding to set up the application process and my rep said that as soon as the whole thing is set up she'll send me a "GO" notice to file it....hopefully sometime next week.

Same here. Zero debt (yet!) and no banks loans. Ever.

gah. Just spent a good hour and a half monkeying with the SBA 10K$ Relief app on line. Repeated attempts ....could never get it to move beyond the second of business and personal owner info entry pages. Not a hint of what is wrong.

ahhhh...success. Called SBA help line...immediately got to talk to friendly person who knew something. Advised to try a different web browser (I was using Firefox) and away she went! So...our first SBA loan app is in. Two more to go, but those are going in via my bank.
