Md. bill would make helmets optional for most motorcyclists

The same people in the Maryland Legislature that want to take our guns are never going to allow the law to pass.
It's a waste of time even thinking about it

I've been wearing a helmet since I was 10. I could go either way on what happens during an accident, whether the helmet causes more cervical injury than without. But tell ya what... I don't really wear it for an accident. I wear it to keep road debris out of my face. I've had stuff kicked up in front of me and careen off the helmet with a lot of force. Woulda hurt a whole lot without a helmet. How many times have you been driving your car and had something smack the window loud enough to make your adrenaline peak? Imagine whatever it was hitting your head with no windscreen and no helmet.
I'll wear mine regardless of the law.

Also, shipmate, check these out. I think they're all in MD. https://tinyurl.com/srl7k25 Edit: it's Marketplace on FB, so you might have to have an account, I'm not sure.

My cousin bought a new Triumph a few years ago; he and the better half love it. I had a '69 Bonneville once upon a time, like, 40 years ago. Remember their old saying "nothing handles like a Triumph"? That, and "Electrics by Lucas, the company that invented darkness." Okay, not their official motto.

She was a great bike. I even rode it in the snow. Well, snow on the ground, not on the road. Of course, I was in my 20s back then. Still in the Reserves and the economy was pretty depressed, so ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Plus, a guy at work rode up with one of these, and I'm really diggin' the look. I'm not sure I'd get rid of my Harley for her, but I think they'd look good together. Harley has a new "bobber," but I don't think they captured the cool vibe the way Triumph did. I have more pictures of the guy at work's bike, if you want to see them.
I always liked the Trumpets BUT I loved my old Snortin Norton. Best thing that ever happened was my 69 Sportster chopper getting ripped off and insurance paying it off and cleared the way for me to buy the Commando. If I ever bought another it would be the Triumph as long as it were an electric start, not sure how much a fake hip on a 69 year old would like kick starting.

I just did a quick search - cheap and Norton don't seem to be used in the same sentence. This is the least expensive one I saw. Again, just a quick search.

So the helmet saves his life but his neck is broken and he is a paraplegic..
You still pay the rest of his life.
Helmets are fine I wear one they make you look nice for your funeral from Blunt Force Trauma.
Yes, there are other injuries that could kill or render you permanently disabled. Can happen in a car as well.
But say you lay down a bike and your head bounces on the pavement - do you come out better with a helmet or without?
Yes, probably has a snowballs chance in hell of passing and it's ironic the nanny state democrats would actually want to roll it back.
What's unfortunate is that I really don't want to have to mandate what should be a personal choice, but the damn lawyers like lawsuits and they want somebody to pay. The party that gets stuck with the bill is the taxpayer, one way or another, we get the bill for poor choices.

If they've paid in, I don't see how that's a problem.
disproportionate return. Lets say your 29 and have paid in for the last 7 years @ 50 a week = 16800 At 30, you now collect 1600/month and no longer pay in but live to be 85. The pot pays you 1,056,000. Your pay in only got you through 10.5 months. Where does the rest of the money come from?

As will I. And my gloves and boots and jacket. And I"ve even recently taken to wearing armored outerpants with hip and knee armor and reinforced butt material. But should it be legally required?

Probably smart. Point is, you should have the choice. What choice you make is up to you (not like if it is legal not to you are required not to).

My point was... don't care. I don't have a dog in that fight, of no concern to me if it's by legal definition or not.
