Md Dog Laws

Supposedly, if the animals are fenced in with warning signs posted, then you are as protected as you can be. However, they can still sue, and most likely your insurance company would settle a nominal fee just to get rid of the inconvenience and in the process mandate a hike in your policy or request that the animals are removed permantely from your residence.

Somebody comes on your property.
Dogs are behind the fence.
Said somebody puts hand through fence to pet BARKING dog and gets bit.
Can said somebody sue homeowner?

Under Maryland’s common law, a dog owner is liable for injuries caused by his or her dog when the owner fails to exercise reasonable care, fails to control the animal, or fails to prevent the harm caused by the animal. The owner’s knowledge of the dog’s propensities is relevant in determining the degree of control a reasonable person would have taken under the circumstances. Even if the owner is unaware of the dog’s mischievous propensity, the owner can still be found negligent if he failed to exercise reasonable care in controlling the animal or preventing the harm

Forgot this. You should read it carefully DW.. http://www.edgarsnyder.com/accidents/dogbite/dogbite-law/maryland.html

Did the bite break skin? What was the reaction of the parent that got bit? Remorseful? Angry? Apologetic?
Hasn't happened yet.
Just wondering if I should keep the dogs contained in the dog house tonight.

Last year, one of the parents tried to pet one of the dogs, but I yelled "NO" before he stuck his hand through the fence.

Back in the mid 80's I had a Lab/Collie. We were have a small family reunion with some of my step mom's family. Had told the kids not to tease the dog or kick him and so on. We had our dog chained up outside, and one of the kids refused to leave him alone. I dragged him away, only to have him go complain to his mommy. Of course I was wrong and had no say in what was going on. So he went back over and started kicking the dog. The dog bit him but didn't break his skin. Of course he went crying to his mom and she pretty much gave my step mom and dad a hard time about what happened, even though it was her son's fault.
It all boiled down to us having the dog put to sleep, or else they would take further action against us.
And this was family.

You should have just started kicking the kid. Then when he cried to mommy, you say well he was kicking the dog, and puppy couldnt kick back, so I intervened on his behalf. Then punch her in the mouth for good measure.

No they can't sue..
Of course they can sue... They need to find a lawyer that will take their money to take their case to court. NOW, would they win? Would the lawyer care as long as he gets paid? Probably not.

I would have...but I was only 10, and I did tell his mom what he was doing.
She just didn't seem to give a sh*t.

What does being 10 have to do with it? At 10, I'd have kicked the crap out of him. Of course, when I was a kid, I always fighting with someone anyway.
