This is why anyone with animals (not just elderly people) ought to have a daily contact relationship with someone who can check on them and their pets if a daily contact is missed.

I agree completely. Since I live alone, one of the stupid things I worry about is someone finding my body in a timely manner should I die. If Apollo snacks on my carcass, that's fine but at some point he's going to need fresh water and a potty walk.
