Memory question?

Motherboard tech manual says it will support DDR200/266/333/400 memory modules
I currently have two DDR 333 modules installed, 3 slots available.
Can I add a DDR 400 in the empty slot or should I stick with DDR 333?

Nope do not mix and match ... it might work, but probably not

It's hit and miss, theoretically the 400 chips should revert down to the speed of the 333's, but I prefer not mixing chips.

Try their scan tool to detect your chips. If you want to buy, they're prices are normally very good and the quality is excellent.

With memory so cheap these days, scrap the 333's and get a few of the 400's. 1GB modules are around $30 each on Newegg. The 200/266/333/400 is the speed of the modules. Mixing and matching of DDR modules should not be a problem but the faster modules will revert to the speed of the slower modules. Sometimes, depending on motherboard/memory combination, mixing and matching memory won't work. With the older memory on P5 systems and below, mixing and matching almost never works.

Thanks all :howdy:

Think I'll lose the two 256k 333 sticks ad get a couple of 1G 400 sticks. New egg has them for $26

I had TQCI build me a computer in '03 with an AMD Athlon 2600 on a Nvidia K7N2G board with 512k of ram. At time, that seemed lik a lot

I also found the box one of the 256k sticks came in. It has a $49.99 price tag on it.
Exact same item is now on Newegg for $8.99

hey, back in the day 256k was a whole lot of memory. First puter I worked with was a total of 16k. took up the whole room too.

I was a tech for the Nav computer on Trident subs. The drum memory was about 18" high and 6" in diameter.
1 meg
