I wonder if anyone knew & told the guy he could borrow a humane trap from his local animal shelter, then take the cat to the shelter to be put down humanely.
Yeah it was mentioned but apparently the guy didn't want to deal with all that - just wanted the cat gone.

Eh, not really. It was just a feral stray - the humane society would have put it down anyway. Besides, why should he jump through hoops to catch the cat? Easier to just get rid of it in a way that will happen quickly - nobody wants a sick cat keeling over for hours.

To expand on "That's too bad:" too bad that someone would be disinclined to ensure a humane death for an animal. It is not that difficult to trap a feral cat.

You make my point. Better for the animal -- even though "it was just a feral stray" -- to be put down quickly at the humane society. So the homeowner doesn't want to be inconvenienced by taking the trouble to trap the cat and take it to the shelter; that doesn't make poisoning the animal the right thing to do. The cat shouldn't have to pay for the guy's convenience by suffering a relatively slow and certainly painful death.

IMO, because "it was just a feral stray" is never a good reason not to treat the animal humanely.

I dunno - I told him not to poison the cat, too, but I could see where he'd rather just dispose of the animal easily rather than spend the time and money trying to trap it, then tote this screaming hissing animal to the humane society.

I've been asked several times to post the Feral Cat thread, and just keep forgetting. I'll do that right now.
