the meetings aren't there to tell you they will think about raiseing your bill they are gonna do it anyway. They hold the public meetings to let you know how much they are spending up front, and over a period of time you will see your bill go up and why

The meetings are information telling you what is going to be updated with equipment, because the old might be close to being faulty. dont want metcom backing up on ya? $45.-60. is not bad. How bout $8,000-10,000 for a new well I am not sure what a septic and drain field goes for haven't needed one replaced. At $50. a month it would take 12 yrs to replace the cost of someone to dig a well with todays low end quote. So it is either you pay for someone else to take care of #### and not have to worry about it once you flush. The convience is ...something is wrong pick up the phone and they get someone out pretty fast and fix the problem.
$45 - 60 a month?? Or have someone come pump out your septic tank every 5 - 10 years at a cost of $150.. do the math..

How long does a well last? If dug deep enough, forever.. a one time cost.. How much is $45 times FOREVER!??

maybe I didn't word it right but that was what I was trying to say, except some folks depending on when they live do not have a choice. Renters have to go with the system in place. Some home owners too.

If you like that kind of entertainment, some of the meetings get heated by the public going to voice. they drag out. bottom line you walk out with more information but you dont get your way. I know one of the meetings I went to now the plan is in phases and it will take 5 years to complete. Still gonna happen even though the land owners are not happy. County and state just hit them with this is it and its gonna happen.

I got the notice and my bill is 42 -43 a month and I believe it said it was going up like 10.50 a month. I'll have to see if I can find it.

didn't they just raise the rates for water?

When I lived in Ltown a couple months back they raised the rates for water(I had a septic system at the house so I'm not sure about the sewer rates) about 2 months before I moved out

I have a well for water, but public sewer. I wonder what would happen if I just quit paying the bill? I pay $40 a month just to flush. Would they disconnect my pipe or something? I should just dig an outhouse.

Actually, they just raised the sewer rather recently, but what they are talking about now is a drastic jump.

I think the last rate hike was $4(or so) a month for water

A drain field costs $20K to replace. If it is a mound system it will fail and have to be redone eventually.

Wells do fail here. The sides cave in and they clog the pump with a very fine black sand. Both my neighbors have had at least $5K worth of well work in the last 2 years.

It is my understanding that Metcom and the county make certain area's pay for the infrastructure for their phase of sewer. This causes widespread differences in cost depending where you live. Metcom proposed sewer service in my neighborhood and the estimate they formulated was that it was going to cost me $147 a month for just sewer, plus $3K up front to put in a grinder, upgrade electrical service if needed and connect. There are people who live in LP, GM and further south that pay little to nothing for sewer and water because the system was put in years ago and was subsidized by the state at that time.

I believe their is an initiative before the state legislature allowing Metcom to spread the cost of capital improvements and service to new area's across the entire customer base. This will mean reasonable public utilities for all instead of some getting raped and some paying jack.

Personally $60 or even $75 a month to me is reasonable for not having the specter of waking up to a sea of crap one morning and a $20K bill for a new drain field.

Lexington Park here, no well or septic and my bill is $57 monthly. When I first moved here in Oct 04 my bill was about $49 a month then it creeped up by the dollar over the course of almost 3yrs. I see no reason for me to waste time at a meeting when it's clear they WILL raise the prices regardless.

In Ltown I paid $13.50 a month for 2 months and then paid an "overage" bill which was usually about $40....the last couple of months before I moved I paid $17.40 a month

I think my ex pays $17.40 a month, too(he only has water)....he lives in Hollywood
