Metrocast vs. Verizon Internet Service

Verizon is offering high speed internet service for $17.99 per month with a 2 year contract. That includes all taxes and fees. After the 2 year contract the price will remain $17.99 as long as you remain with Verizon. That is less than half of what I am paying for Metrocast. Other than the price I have been happy with Metrocast, but the offer is really tempting. What are your concerns with this offer?

What all do you have through Metrocast? What will be the price for what you have now broke up like that? What it be cheaper?

We only have internet service with Metrocast. We have Directv so we could combine it with the Verizon phone service and internet service. I am wondering if there are any reasons other than price why I should stay with Metrocast? Such as reliability, speed and customer service.

You're a LOON :)
I have had Verizon DSL for just over 4 years now. We went with it originally because it was cheaper to do Direct TV and DSL then it was to have cable.

I have NEVER had a problem with my DSL from day one.

:yeahthat: I think the price you're quoting is the 750k connect speed.

While slower than cable, it beats the hell out of dialup

I will never go back to dialup. I see what you are saying about the connection speed. Do you know what Metrocast connection speed is?

It's the 1m/384kbps plan for $17.99.

Anything is better then dial-up or hughesnet. I would say going to DSL depends completely on your internet habits. If you just surf, check email and watch a few videos I would say go for DSL.

If you are a avid gamer, heavy downloader(videos, music, file sharing, etc) I would say stick with cable. Of course this is just my opinion.

What plan do you have with Metrocast? What do you pay a month? If I recall correctly Metro offers a 1.5m/256kbps and a 6m/384k package?

Decisions, Decisions.

I pay $44.00 per month for Metrocast. That's why I was considering Verizon. Thanks for the input.

DSL is so much better!!! Crapcast is so terrible... SOOOOO slow. If there are any Verizon Techs that read these forums can you please consider getting DSL in the Dameron area. I hate metrocast, we had verizon DSL before but we moved and now we can't get DSL down this way......... :smack:

I pay more than that for my Verizon DSL...hope I'm not getting screwed. -.- Just did that test though and I'm running at 3,000kbs download/700kbs upload. I'm a 'gamer' myself and never had any lag issues, even with a roommate using his X-Box online at the same time.

Had cable for a while though and it was always in and out. To date, after two years of DSL service I've never lost it for more than 10 minutes and everytime I called to report it the automated message thing already knew it was down...spooky. o_O

You have the next package up - 3m/768kbps $27.99 bundled or $29.99 unbundled. Your package is 3 times(in terms of speed) better then the $17.99 deal.

And yes with your package gaming is just fine.

Most new computers now do not even have a slot for a modem, only Ethernet connects as most people do not even have dail up anymore. Just like they took out "A" Drives and pay to extra if you need it (which most people do not today).

We are thinking about switching to Verizon DSL from dial-up. Thanks for the reviews. Seems like it's a good choice.

Verizon? You must have a old package. The lowest they offer now is 1m/384kbps.

If your paying the same or more then the $17.99 offer I would call.

I have the same. 768/128 for about $17/m. Never got any notice that it was an outdated plan. I renewed last year and it would have cost me $28/m for the 1M plan.

Bastages...
