Metrocast VS Verizon

I've been holding since lunch (11 am) to speak with a Metrocast rep. I'd hold for 20 minutes, hang up. Hold for another 20 minutes, hang up. I was finally able to speak to someone about 5 minutes ago.

yes, dsl vs. cable..
DSL is cheaper but slower..

You can get a package deal through Verizon, unlimited long distance on your home phone, all the bells and whistles on your phone AND DSL for about $90... but you still need TV

Metrocast you can do digital cable, one or two premium channels, and Cable Internet for about $100, phone you can probably do without if you have a cell phone OR you can also purchase a internet phone service

I think the cost is almost a wash, so based on performance Cable is the way to go

Plan your calling. If you call when most of the people that have questions or problems are going to call, then expect a wait. Call early in the morning and the wait won't be as bad.

Next time I'll plan my problem accordingly, or at least tell my problem to hold off until early morning.

I'm sorry, I don't have Metrocast at work, so it being a problem for me would only be in the morning and evening.

I have the 1.5M service from Metrocast at home, ive had no issues with it for the 2 years or so that ive been using it. I think im going to be going towards the 4m service soon. more than double the speed for like 10 bucks i think it was...

Doesn't this contradict your previous statement?
No, because most people are too lazy and won't call in the morning.. they'll wait for lunch time, or after work...

Oh, and skip the local office, call their national number, they can do anything the local office can, but they have many more operators on the 800 number..

I called their 800 number yesterday and it said that number was out of service. They are a pain in the a$$!

The problem with DSL is that is only available in areas close to the switch. That is why I still have dial-up. Seems like FIOS will be here before DSL.

Metrocast charges extra to get hi-speed internet without Television channels. Since I have long progressed beyond cable T.V. to DirecTV, I would have to pay an extra fee. Some systems require installing an in-home network to connect all your computers whereas dial-up does not.

Another option if you do not have trees on the South is DierctWay, aka Hughesnet.

Cell phones are worthless here, so a wired line phone is needed.

Can you ping me now? Good
depends on what your looking..To me Metrocast is about the most worthless company in the county. It's a ok service if its working but when it breaks or service has degraded your in for a real nightmare trying to get then to ackknowledge a problem or take any kind of quick corrective action to resolve it.

DSL is great if your basically going to use it to surf the internet, email and a little downloading. The best part about DSL obviously is the cost. The reliabilty is pretty good also. They offer several different packages as far as speeds go. Some speeds are equal to that of Metrocast but of course those speeds need you to be close to a central office. Your loop length needs to be short. But like I said if your just looking to surf the internet a 1.5 meg connection is all you need. Most websites are limited bandwidth anyway so having a 4 or 6 meg speed really doesn't give you anything if the website is only a T1 rate.

If your into heavy downloading, peer 2 peer go with cable just be prepared for major headaches!

Just my opinion. :lmao:
