I thought Verizon ofters a package with phone, dsl and directv? Wouldn't that be a better comparison to a cable package?

This should be interesting... plenty of metrocast haters... a guy i went to highschool with works for them, he said they will never get bought out... not that he likes working for them, but the perks and pay are pretty decent

When I say that I am referring to GMP Cable, American Cable, Metrocast, shoot I cant remember the other names they have had...

I mean like bought out by Comcast, Cox, Time Warner, someone that is bigger that will give us better service.. I am very jealous of comcast customers....

Not only is there HD channels WAYYYYYYYYY better but heck there cable modems are pretty decent, and Id consider going the cable route if that were to ever happen..

I personally LOVE my DSL! I have had it for 5 or 6 yr.s and have only had problems twice!!! My speed is plenty fast enough I have no problems downloading, uploading, or surfing. IMO DSL is a lot more reliable. I never have speed issues either. Goes fast all day long no problems! Hope this helps. :howdy:

Verizon does offer a phone, iDSL and TV service. The TV service is provided by Direct TV and the phone part is wonderful. You just have to be sure that DSL lines are running in your area.

I got cable installed 6 months ago. I still have my cable above ground down by the street. Have no problems or complaints about the service in the Hollywood area. Then again I am less then 10 miles away from them.

My cable was sticking out too, which was a real pain when I mowed the lawn because it was right at the bottom of a very steep hill. After a couple of years of dealing with it I got fed up and called them about it. I had to call several times because they sent the wrong techs out with the wrong information. Finally a box was installed over the offending cable. I credit the final tech with making this happen and not Metrocast due to the fact that it was his father (who also was a Metrocast contractor) that had these boxes and did the installation of them.

After being stuck with Metrocrap cable and thier suck overloading of the southern Nodes (south of gate 3) for over a year...Im glad I moved to NY and now have Verizon DSL.

I have a thread in hear somewhere (link here CLICK HERE ..) detailing my (and many others pain) where our cable modem was UNUSABLE due to packet loss from the overloaded network. After 6pm most nights my 4.0 MB/s connection was lucky to get 300 KB/s down.... (.3 MB/S)

Dont know if they have fixed it yet...and dont care being as I dont have to deal with it anymore. Just Buyer beware.... especially if your south of gate 3.

I hope I made the right decision

I obviously am not a regular poster in this site, but I have been looking for threads about Metrocast and Verizon. We moved in California, MD 3 years ago and Verizon DSL was not available yet. I finally got a call this afternoon informing us that it is available in the area. We currently have the Verizon landline, so I went ahead and checked online what kind of bundle they offer. I am very happy to say that I found a bundle just for the phone and internet for only $64.99/month!! We live in an apartment right now (Wildewood) and we get a good discount from the apartment office for our cable, so we'll stick with the phone-internet bundle for now. If we move out hopefully early next year, we can add up DirecTV to the bundle and only pay $99.99/month for all three of them.

As far as the internet goes, we've been using Metrocast Cable 4.0 Mbps since we moved here and have had a lot of problems with it before. So far lately, we haven't experienced any problems (except our own crappy router that resets by itself and disconnects us from the internet). I was using the internet with work a lot before when I was doing Medical Transcription, but now that I'm not doing that anymore, I don't think we would need 4.0 Mbps for the speed. My husband does play Xbox Live, but the 3.0 Mbps should do well with his online gaming. By the way, Verizon will also give us a complimentary modem and router, and they have a 30-moneyback guarantee. If we think we don't like their internet service, we can cancel it before 30 days and not be billed for it.

Hope this post helps. :)

Blah.. Blah...Blah
DSL is cheaper but slower..

You can get a package deal through Verizon, unlimited long distance on your home phone, all the bells and whistles on your phone AND DSL for about $90... but you still need TV

Metrocast you can do digital cable, one or two premium channels, and Cable Internet for about $100, phone you can probably do without if you have a cell phone OR you can also purchase a internet phone service

I think the cost is almost a wash, so based on performance Cable is the way to go

I got dsl , phone, and directtv for about 125.00 a month. It's normally 99.00 but I have the pay channels on my direct tv. Plus since I bundled all three together I got 100.00 gift card from circuit city. Plus the dsl is faster since I had the dry loop for verizon.

I had cable net but at 220kbps it was proptly turned in for DSL and 1.5meg goodness.

Cable company was Digital Services and DSL was through Verizon.

Wish we could even get a choice of DSL or Cable! You all don't know how lucky you are with the choice...

Your stuck with DSL only I assume?

Ive had cable through digital services and metrocast and now my DSL through verizon and I can tell you im not ever going back to cable.

With cable we never got the speeds we were paying for and the net would drop out all the time. With the DSL I pay for 1.5 and I get 1.5 and ive never had a problem with getting kicked off
