Pretty clearly a complete loss of propulsion control...they were reversing when they hit the bridge and the vessel remained in reverse well after the impacts.

I’m guessing a complete communications breakdown.

Someone shouted “No El Backup” and they mistook it for turning on all the Christmas lights.

You know that the memes arising out of this tragedy will be awesome.

You're backing toward a bridge in reverse and you don't order the anchor dropped or the order to get the cadets out of the shrouds?
How long had they been going backwards before they hit.

Easy to be Monday morning quarterbacks but did they really have a woman Captain with a crew made up of female Cadets?

Mexican Navy...sailboat? All the way up in NYC?

What am I missing?

The Mexican navy said on Saturday the ship was an academy training vessel. The incident happened during the "departure maneuver" during an instructional cruise titled, "Bicentennial of the Consolidation of Independence at Sea."

What?
