Microsoft Security Essentials. Better than AVG?

I've also been a faithful AVG customer for over 10 years but, for financial reasons, I need to cut back. Other than that, I've had very good service from them.

Certain updates cause changes to the number of programs running and I've often had to go into "msconfig" and turn them off. Adobe is famous for that with almost every update.

A friend of mine said his computer was really slow for about 20 minutes after he first turned it on. His AVG scheduled scan program was off but, for some reason, it would always do a scan right when it was first turned on. That and the normal 2 minute boot up was why it was so slow.

I'll be downloading WE around Feb 1st and hope for the best...

I got rid of AVG - it had become a hog and the last straw was when it missed some malware I apparently picked up from a 3rd party ad on a website I visited. I'm pretty happy with Windows Essential Security. Since it's a free proggie, I dont see why you're waiting until the 1st to d/l.

I've mentioned in other threads that I think keeping CCleaner (free) loaded and running it about once a week is a good idea for cleaning up unnecessary things. I also keep Malwarebytes loaded just in case I feel like something might be wrong again.

Just want to use it until it almost expires to get my money's worth. Should I download WE before I delete AVG or should I download it while AVG is still in my computer?

I've always been afraid of using ANY registry cleaner for fear that it might disable some program that I couldn't re-enable. Is that a valid concern?

I'd delete it then install WE. It's not like you're going to be running a bunch of other stuff while you're doing this. Just one less thing for WE to scan after it installs. /shrug

I can't speak for other registry cleaners, I only know I trust CCleaner.

I'm a stickler about doing updates on my AV. I think that is key.

I love CCleaner. It's very user friendly.

I also love that can easily go onto the Things' laptops anytime and check out what they got. :yahoo:
