Whose approval do you mean?
I am so furious at the decision that was made at one High School TWO days before school starte that there would be no English 1 in the 12th grades, the students that had signed up for English 1 was automatically placed in the class Pace Setters. Many of the seniors are failing due to this poor judgemant call by the Principal. The majority of this kids doesn't even know what pace setters is about. Good Luck to the seniors graduating from Patuxent High School. Thank you Mrs. Highsmith

The ratings in the Post were for one thing: MSA scores. Some schools educate kids while some schools teach to the test. This rating is useless because it does not rate the big picture, it only looks at one small part.robbie said:theres a list in the Wash. Post today (So. MD section) that list the top middle schools. Where's Charles and St. Mary's. Do they include St. Mary's. I see one Charles, some Calvert and the rest mostly Howard, Montgomery etc. Doesn't this concern the school board?

It is a much more interactive way of teaching and learning. It's good for kids who are outgoing and good with groups. Rather than just reading and writing the whole time, they do other things such as skits, and presentations. Then there is honors, which is formatted like English 1 but, there is more work and is fast paced, for the smarter kids in the school.
Basically the kids that are failing Pace Setters, it is because they choose not to try and just don't care, the class is way to easy if you participate.
But I don't like Mrs. Highsmith so the decision does suck!

If you want to rate a middle school, you have to include the big picture: how prepared are the kids when they get to high school? How many graduate? How many drop out? How many go to college? What kind of SAT scores do they get?
