Mike's Bikes

Jeff

Stop Staring!!!!!
Looks like I need to gear up to buy three BMX style bicycles.

Was figuring I would head over to Mike's and talk to and possibly buy from him.

Anyone have any dealing with them?
Good/Bad experiences?
Do they know what they are talking about?

I think he's great. Bought a mountain bike from him. Months later, I took it back and got a free tune-up. If I'm not mistaken he gave me something like a 5 year warranty on the bike. Months later, the seat broke, took it back, he popped a new one on for free.

Also, he seems to be quite a role-model for neighborhood kids in that area as well.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

It's NOT a Dick's Sporting Goods, or even a Lowes. The interior is ragged around the edges.

He knows his stuff, and would rather give him my business than ANY other store around.

BG and I bought two bikes from him last year. He let us test ride, and try out as many bikes as we wanted until we found our match. He coached us fit and fitment of the bikes compared to our height, and weight, and helped us pick out the right bikes for us.

He also will tune up bikes that you've bought from him as well as free adjustments.

:yay: :yay:

ANd he does great things for the community and the local kids every day.

We stopped in there last week and talked to some little skinny dude. Mike was not there. At that point I was buying for one kid. Now it looks like I am buying for three kids so just wanted to be certain before I put that kind of coin out.

He also has 2 beautiful German Shepherds. If that doesn't make you want to buy from him then I don't know what will....

How does one "tune up" a bicycle?

You tighten up the loose spokes in a fashion that re-aligns the rim. You check the bearing tightness on the pedal shaft to make sure the crank isn't making knocking noises when you pedal hard. And most important you adjust/lube the derailer's and gears so they're shifting smoothing and not making annoying noises. Brakes might need looked at too. Lots of stuff to look at if it's done right.

One more :yay: for Mike's.

Well, sounds like that's where I'll be heading. He'll like seeing me come through the door buying three bike's at once.

I am debating whether or not to go ahead and spoil Christmas a bit for the three boys I am buying for and take them there early and let them pick their Bike's out or just go talk to Mike and buy based on the discussion.

I have not bought any decent bike's in years and don't want to come home with some bike's the kids don't like. I already picked one out that I thought might do the trick for one of the boys but that damned thing was $260.00. I sure as heck don't want to spend that kind of money on a kid's bike and have him not like it.

I got a gift certificate. It was the last thing I ever bought for the ex.....
