Miley Cyrus Topless In Vanity Fair................

You’ve got me wrong. For me, it’s all about holding parents accountable for what their kids do.

I'm all for parents being held accountable as well, which is why I find it absurd to put so much stake in celebrity influence. None of them mean boo to me or my kids. I tend not to get worked up over issues that I have absolutely no control over and are fairly trivial in the grand scheme of things.

There's so much stake in celebrity influence because it exists. The influence, no matter how trivial it is to you and me, it's very real to others. You have parents practically killing each other to get tickets to Miley's concerts. It's ridiculous but it still exists. I don't to pretend that what these entertainers do doesn't affect some of the minds of people out there, especially our kids.

They may very well affect some of the minds of people out there. I have no control over their minds, just my own and my kids, I have no inclination to get the vapors over anyone else's kids and their influences. Especially some silly little picture, that really was not intended to be interpreted as sexual in nature. It is hype for the sake of hype, which is just silly. Like I said before, I'm more shocked and offended by the stuff girls wear in dance. Why is it the same parents who are freaking out over Miley and her back, have no problem with parents in their own community hookering their little girls up in tiny little outfits to dance in front of an audience?

And for the record, I am not concerned with the moral decay of the girls in dance class either. I'm sure they are all fine, upstanding, lovely children. Am merely making a comparison in absurdity.

Unless your kid is hanging out with one of those kids. Do you really know, when your kid turns a teenager, what sort of things they will be picking up from other kids? You can’t isolate them.

What sort of interpretation were we to take away from a 15 year flashing bare-back with a sheet covering her front looking like she just got out of bed anyway? Is this some sort of picture they would put on their mantle? Are all these people that are taking this in a sexual way wrong? I’m only approaching this from a “I am fed up with the Hollywood garbage” routine. I’m approaching this from a standpoint that I hope parents stop allowing their kids to absorb this nonsense. Put them out of business. Stop looking to these entertainers to be some sort of standard for our kids to follow.

My kid does hang out with plenty of kids in dance. I'm sure my kid will be picking up all sorts of things when she's a teenager, she's pretty clever, she picks things up now. :jet: The thing is, she's not a mindless moron who can't think for herself. Give your kids some credit. Do you really think that your kids strive to emulate an entertainer? Mine certainly don't. I've not met a kid yet who is that easily brainwashed. I'm sure they exist, but they are the minority.

I honestly didn't view the bare back picture as sexual. It was artsy fartsy, but not overtly sexual.

We're simply not going to agree on this issue. I think you are over reacting to a fairly benign photograph, and you think I'm naive and have my head shoved in the sand when it comes to the influence celebrities have on society. We can argue until we're blue in the face but the fact of the matter is, I am right and you are wrong.

I suppose you have forgotten the days of the Britney look-alikes with their hip-hugging pants and their cracks hanging out; shirts cropped up as far as they can get away with without getting arrested and their belly-button rings, etc... You better believe they are mocking these entertainers. If yours aren’t, good for them for having their own mind. But there are a bunch out there that don’t have the same responsible parents.

I honestly didn't view the bare back picture as sexual. It was artsy fartsy, but not overtly sexual.

Well, you are different than the many that did. Because you didn’t you are going to dismiss their sentiments? In reality I view this just the beginning. Britney Spears started out the same way; a little artsy fartsy and next thing you know she’s flashing crotch and landing into rehab. And the consumers, especially the kids, ate it up.

I think we agree that parents need to be more responsible about what their kids are watching and listening to. I don’t think you are naïve… I just don’t think you believe it’s as big a problem as I do. Because it doesn’t affect your kids then it’s no big deal. I feel differently there. Even if it doesn’t affect my kid, I care about the ones that it does.

Poor Taste

well...we all know it's for the money.....why else ?

but the pictures with her and her dad......wow, looks a little like borderline sexual abuse or something. Not a good look. Laying all over your family like that. strange ~

I have to disagree that the consumers ate up stupid behavior of Brittany, Lindsay, and Paris. I'd argue that the way they behaved hurt their popularity. Sure it sold a hell of a lot of tabloids, but their credibility as a talented role model is pretty much gone. They're more of a laughing stock than anything else.

Miley still hasn't even come close to having a Hollywood meltdown, and sure, the pics don't bode well for the image they are trying to maintain, but I don't think she's even remotely on the road to a Brittany style trainwreck.

I actually don't censor a whole lot of what my kids watch or listen to. I think having exposure to the current pop culture opens up a line of communication.

In the end it did hurt them. It got to be so extreme that not even their Hollywood friends could support it. But all you had to do was go to your average middle school or mall and see all the girls trying to dress just like Britney. But there is much more that goes into this than just Britney or Lindsay or Miley. The rap industry is the catalyst for a lot of the gang activity going on with kids younger and younger commiting the worst kind of crimes. But you've already hit it anyway, it's the parents; or actually the lack there-of. We wouldn't be talking about this if parents were more interactive in what their kids are soaking into their brains. They're not. In fact so may of them think the who entertainment scene is pretty cool too.

I certainly hope you're right. We'll know more in the next 3 to 5 years.

This is where you and I part ways. Pop culture has been, since the dawning of the Beatles, at the forefront of the pregessive movement in this country that aims to dismantle all sense of rule of law and self-responsibility. Anarchy through definace of authority. It's an anything-goes society. And they have no intention of keeping this to themselves. They want to spread it across the country. And what easier target than our kids.
