Just got out of a meeting with the housing reps and there are currently 22 homes available for Enlisted folks. These are brand new homes with garages that you could be assigned to today, NO WAIT.
Good luck.

I believe the issue was schools. In that they wanted the kids to go to Evergreen, and not ones they would if they were on base.

Tina--We're moving to Pax and should be there in a couple weeks. I'd be happy to take some pictures of the Lovell Court (or Cove, I've heard it called both, lol) housing when we get there! Housing said it's exactly the same as Challenger Estates and there are 3 and 4 bedroom units, brand new. We wanted to live off base but they are reserving those for Officers for the most part, so we'll probably end up in Lovell.

Thank you! I called housing today and the guy was very insistent that we would like Lovell because it is newest and on base. I do like living on base, but I need space and so I have emailed him and asked him to let me know which ones have the largest square feet, I don't know that he can even do this. I know a lot of the newer houses would have the nicest appliances and such, but sometimes the older houses have more square footage per room. I think we will probably end up in Lovell also, we have to put in our applications ASAP, and at this point it sounds like the most likely place we will be put.

Not around here. None of the older stuff is going to have the square footage of the new stuff. Not in enlisted quarters anyway.

From what the Housing Manager told me, they are pretty much reserving the Colombia Colony housing, which are the only single family homes and probably the biggest, for Officers as this is apparently the only housing for them? They said the wait would be long if we wanted one.

The 4-bedrooms at Lovell average about 2100 square feet and are townhomes.

I think they are trying to put everyone in Lovell at this point. There is no wait for them as far as I know and I was told we would probably be able to pick one (by the manager) though the rep wasn't so sure.

Anyways, I sent you a PM with my e-mail address, just email me and I'll forward you the floor plans!

How does it work if you live on base housing and you have visitors/family coming to your house? Isn't it a pain for them to drive on/off base each time? I've never lived on base so I was just wondering...

You go through the pass office to arrange temporary passes for the duration of their visit. Not to hard a deal.

We will be relocating to PAX River next month. We would like to go ahead and get on the housing list, but I need some advice on the different Military Housing locations. My husband is an E-5 and we have 3 children. I would prefer to live on base, but it looks like the nicer/newer communities are off base. The last time we moved we got stuck in a community with a lot of younger couples and there was a lot of partying and chaos, I would like to avoid that if at all possible. I would like to feel like my children are safe in their own back yards. Any suggestions?

If any of your children has special needs, you can get right on the list. Priority One...

I would try to get the housing out in wildwood. the newer housing on base is really nice, but the school system in lexington park is by far the worst i have seen and i have been in the navy almost 20 years. the further away from lexington park school are you are the better off your kids will be. we moved off base to lusby just to make sure our kids were in a good school district.

They are reserving the housing behind Target for officers only. The waiting list is extremely long and there are no vacancies. We tried to get in there but they pretty much laughed at us. The Wildewood housing has a really long wait too. Someone posted awhile back that they've been waiting 9 months.

We just got new neighbors (we live in the housing behind Target) and they waited maybe a month. Also, about two months ago on the other side of us an Enlisted family moved in (on a street which is supposed to be reserved for Officers only). What I am saying is that is what is true one week may not be the next with the housing office. Be persistant and polite and you will get in a house.

What rank was the enlisted family? In our experience, though we qualify for the housing behind target as E-7, they specifically told us they were only allowing officers to move in there. I can see them making an exception for an E-8/E-9, but if you think we can get into that housing, I'd certainly try again.
