Yes, but with your 8 year old son in the woods with you you'd think he'd of taken extra time to make sure he positivley identified what he was shooting at.

Sad, I feel sorry for that family. I'm sure they are going through hell.

... and people wonder why I've threatened to dispose of any gun someone seems to think my son may need.

Hunting is kind of a big deal in MN... like ice skating... as soon as they can hold a gun (or wear ice skates and stay up mostly) they're taught how to hunt (or skate).

I totally agree............some folks are just trigger happy out there, and it is tragic.......

The gun isn't the issue. It is an irresponsible shooter that is the problem :yay: Not only should this guy have taken EXTRA time to make sure he positively identified his target (seeing as he had his kid with him) but you should ALWAYS make sure you know what you're shooting at and what is behind it...ALWAYS.

Exactly.

Yeah, I'll bet he did. :coffee:

Must be one strange looking kid if Dad thought he was a turkey. I'm more inclined to say Dad shouldn't be allowed to hunt anymore.

No kidding. That kid must have wandered off pretty far for him to think he was a TURKEY, which leads me to wonder how long he hadn't been paying attention to the kid. I feel sorry for the family.

There's a good chance you aren't the only one out hunting. Why would you ever leave your child alone knowing 1. children aren't very likely to stay put 2. somebody else might mistake him for something else or take off with him? I do feel so badly for this family though and I agree this was a tragic event even so.

Ok, this is mean but.....well it's me and the point will be driven home.

That gun had as much to do with killing that boy as the forks you use made you fat.

The father is an idiot who should be mistaken for a turkey and shot.

... it would've made a point if the forks had anything to do with making me "fat" as you say...

I'm against guns... and I realize that guns don't kill people, people kill people... I respect other people's right to own one, but as long as my son is a minor, he will not have a gun.

i feel for the family. but i am a hunter myself and if you can't tell the difference between a turkey and a child you have issues. if there are turkeys out in the woods as big as a 8 year old boy i am going the other way.

Or if you are just shooting at whatever is rustling the bushes - the whole situation is tragic and just really strange in how it happened
