Trump took them after he was no longer president to his residence and refused for almost 6 months to return them.

When it was realized that it was in the wrong place the DOJ was immediately notified and it was turned over in 24 hours.

There was no break in the chain of custody. Unlike in Trumps scenario.

Being in a closet and not in an approved container in an approved location breaks the chain of custody, this isn't a Law and Order rerun about a bloody sock.
