Misskitty's Kitten.....

It's not not nice for the cat either so long as you have it done with a lazer. I've personally witnessed my oldest cat as well as hundreds of others being done. There is no pain, no pain medication and they are on thier feet as soon as they wake up. It's not brutal like the old school scalple (sp?) way where they had to virtually cut off blood supply to the feet, bandage, administer pain meds etc.

I believe letting cats outside is far more cruel. All my girl cats are strickly indoor cats and I would not have it any other way. I allow my boy cat outside only because he will piss on things if I don't. He constantly has some sort of little scab or something on him from I assume his adventors through the woods and a couple months ago had his tail mashed on both sides, the hair still hasn't grown back fully from the injury.

I understand that many people don't understand modern declawing and are misconceived about what it entails but in my house it's a far better option that a lifetime of terrorizing my cats by either putting ineffective softpaws on them, scaring them away when I catch them clawing, etc.

I didn't know this could be done with a lazer. I understand where you're coming from. When I moved in, kitty had always been indoor/outdoor cat, she always wears a breakaway bell collar as well. Miraculously she stays around our property.

I doubt I'd have it done the old way after having seeing it a handful of times. The laser is more expensive and some people weren't willing to cough up the money. I have my indoor cats spayed and there's really no need for it. It's not looked upon as cruel. Spaying is no more cruel than declawing in my opinion. When a female cat is spayed a full hysterectomy is done, ovaries and all. Why? Women who have them often face a number or problems. I've never seen or heard of anyone being offered hormone replacement for cats. It's done this way because taking away the hormones typically makes the cat a better pet. If it were to ONLY prevent disease or pregnancy than a tubal ligation or partial hysterectomy could be done. Same thing with male cats, although I have seen where just the vessel was cut typically the whole testical is taken. Why?

I had my oldest cat spayed and declawed with a laser. Her spay was also a flank spay which is a much smaller incision on the side opposed to the belly. I will have the bad ass kittens done the same.

We have to reupholster 4 brand new dining room chairs and our two living room chairs because of the little darlings. Our dining room chairs weren't in the house a day before they started in on them. :cds:

That's a good sign - eventually (months or years) that you should have a petable kitty - but maybe not ever a snuggly one. Some cats aren't ever snuggly. Yates (in my icon) loves to be petted by EVERYONE, but is NOT a snuggler. He wants to sit right next to you and get petted.

Yates looks ALOT like Yoshi.
