Mobile Auto Body Work

Nothing to see here
Has anyone used a Mobile auto body work place? I see a few on craigslist and I emailed one just to get an estimate. I want to have new floor boards welded in my car as well as a pillar post cut out and a replacement welded in its place. If I had the funds, I would just take it to an auto body shop that does restorations and have them call me when she is done. I figure if I do some little by little, it will eventually get done. If I knew how to weld, I would do it myself but I am not going to learn and butcher my car that I care about.

Having done a lot of that kind of body repair, I am surprised that anyone would be attempting panel replacement as a mobile service...it's hard enough to accomplish in a regular shop. And in addition....I charge more for mobile welding services than normal shop rates where the work comes to me. Can't figure how anyone mobile would be doing it for less than regular shop rates. Be interesting to see what you find.

You might be surprised, MIG welding is very appropriate for your application and is about the easiest type of welding to learn. You won't be a master, but you can learn the basics and be good enough in an hour or two. And if you have an angle grinder to cleanup the welds there's little danger in being messy. And if you screw it up, your basically where you started anyways.
