Mobile phones 'more dangerous than smoking'

I believe it has to do with the potential for the signals to mess with the hospital’s equipment. You wouldn't want a false reading on a heart monitoring machine because a cell phone signal caused issues.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that medical evidence supports this notion later. Not at all.

That used to be a concern, but wasn't proven. Not only that, but most hospitals now have cellular repeaters (you can see the antennas in the hallways) to improve the signal deep inside the building where the doctors insist on having coverage.

Was listening to this on the radio today... with close to One Billion cell phones in the world it surpasses the number of people smoking... someone with a brain tumor is bound to have a cell phone.

It is statistics, and pretty weak at that... not a "scientific study"

There was another good part. They assume the numbers will surface between 2008 and 2012 because tumors take 10 years to develop. Do that math.

If this were an issue, and it did take ten years to develop, wouldn't those numbers have come out years ago? Isn't this guy a bit late to the game? Wouldn't those tumors be very widespread among people who used older phones that put out way more power and used analog signals that have far greater average power?

Not just a false reading but, since most everything today is digital, certain radio frequency (RF) signals can change settings and turn equipment off or on. The same reason they say turn off cell phones at gas pumps.
Cell phones and microwave ovens use "microwaves" to operate so, in essence, we're cooking our brains the longer we stay on the phone.
Microwaves are generated waves that are very small in size due to their very high frequency number. E.g. cell phones use frequencies around 850 megacycles up to 1.990 gigacycles. Microwave ovens use frequencies, in the range of 2.45 gigacycles. Slightly higher than cell phones but still dangerous to living beings.
As a licensed Amateur radio operator, I am required to take RF signal measurements from my antenna to make sure that my signal is not too strong for any humans in close proximity to it, so there is a lot of truth in what they say about cell phone health hazards. Not to mention how they take kids away from quality family time, (If there's any of that left).

I don't know about any of the above. But they are more hazardous on the road than what the state considers a drunk driver.
