Mom and Pop Pizza

Eat More Beef, Less Chkn
Its been a bit since I have posted here but I just have to let people around here know about Mom and Pop Pizza in Mechanicsville.

First off, I love pizza and know good pizza when I eat it. Domino's and Pizza Hut DO NOT come close to the bar which Mom and Pop Pizza sets for the quality of their pizzas.

I was under the understanding that they had closed down - and they had for a bit. Evidently the pizza place is located within Boatman's Mini-mart and was leased out to "some guy" who (from what an employee said) ran things into the ground. SO, I assume that the owners broke the lease and fired the guy. As of now, it is under original ownership. Not to worry though, the three 18 inch pizzas i ordered hardly let me down.

Trust me people, I know good pizza and the pizza they serve puts commercial pizza to shame. Not only is the quality better but the prices are out of this world. The 3 pizzas I got only ran me $48!!!! AND they had 3 toppings on them each!

They do deliver if they have a delivery guy - hey - its Mom and Pop running the place after all. I'm not sure of the minimum ordering amount or delivery charges. You'll need to call to find out.

Anyways, here is the address and phone number for the place:

41106 Oakville Rd, Mechanicsville, MD
(301) 373-8383

If you are trying to find the place, go to Loveville Rd and take a left at the light if traveling south/right if traveling north.

What makes you an authority on pizza? I totally agree about Domino's a Pizza Hut...but you need to give some history and backround that says you know what your talking about. I am from northeat NJ, about as close as you can get to the pizza capital of the united states, and I can tell you there is no pizza place that I know of around here that comes close to anything from NY or northern NJ.

I have not yet been to this Mom and Pop place though, so I guess I will have to check it out.

DUDE!! You have to check this place out. History...well.. ok... if you (as you claim) come from the "pizza capital of the united states", then i probably dont know pizza as you do. So, I really cant argue a point with ya.

The only true way to validate my claims of this place is for you to go try them. Simple as that. Hell...they outta pay me for talking about them so much... anyways.. their pizza is worth it and i would be really upset if they stop making pizzas because of a lack of customer base. I'm just doing my part to help keep the doors open...

I am not from there exactly, but pretty damn close to it. (I am talking about NYC by the way) I sure as hell eat enough of it...until I moved down here! So what's the pizza like?

Man, I tell ya. I don't know what kind of sausage they put on the pizza but it is really good - SO full of flavor. Pepperoni is standard stuff.... but you want to know what really separates this pizza apart from others s- IMO- the crust!

I mean - it has some kind of a garlic flavor or something to it. And it tastes like of like yeast rolls... Ya know how (when eating Domino's or Hut's pizza) you throw the crust down when finished eating the good stuff off of a slice? Its mainly because the crust really doesn't have any flavor. NOT the case with Mom and Pop's pizza. This crust is off the wall good!!

Then the cheese. PLEASE dont ask for extra because you do NOT need extra. It seems all pizzas come with extra anyways.

The sauce...not sure what brand it is or if it is home made...its delicious. Thats all i know.

Toppings are of fresh ingredients - it seems. No pre-frozen junk that was thawed out and cooked on afterwards.

Overall, the pizzas are well balanced between amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings. The 18 inchers are pretty darn big and the slices are cut (seemingly) NY style. i usually just cut them into smaller slices here at the house.

Anyways...hope this helps a little with explaining what the pizzas are like

I went to NJ last year and ordered pizza twice from two different pizzas. I gagged. I like my pizza thick with garden vegetables and little to no grease.

I will have to check out Mom and Pop's. I just cannot bring myself to eat at Pizza Hut, Pizza Hotline, or Dominos. Thanks for the tip. The best pizza I ever had in NJ was a place outside of Atlantic City called JoJo's.

Mama Ilardo's has the best pizza. Sbarro's is not bad either.

Nicoletti's over in Hickory Hills plaza is pretty darn good! I would rather eat there anyday then Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's or 4 Star! Now I gotta have some pizza, where's that husband of mine? :lmao:

I can recall a time when dominos tasted like card-board and hut was just not giving out very much for what they were asking. Overall, id have to say Hut has been consistent with taste quality. When P.Johns came into the limelight, they sorta hurt Hut because they had fresh ingredients (vegies, deli meats, etc) and customers seemed to like that.

Now, I tell ya what - if Mom and Pop's had enough capitol to advertise and really place them selves in the public eye - they are going to make good money. P. Johns has nothing on these guys...especially when the crust comes into question.

lol.. I remember my first pizza there. for some idiotic reason i ordered a pizza with anchovies... my mistake. i ended up ordering a second to help wash down the first...

Great place to dine for sure!

I will have to say, however - Mom and Pop's can still give them a run for their money.
