Mom Sues Wal-Mart Over Daughter's Suicide

Ok, let's assume that her name was on a list at the Wal-Mart. It still isn't Wal-Mart's fault. In that case, they had a procedure in place that the clerk didn't follow.

Ok, I've thought about it since getting up this morning, and I guess I'll eat some crow, as it were.

The practice I spoke of was something this regional area set up, ie., sharing violent incident reports between store managers for dissemination to sensitive areas in the stores, like firearm sales.
That may not be the case in the Denton, Tx area, so I have to admit if it was not, then I am wrong and that Wal*Mart store is not at fault.

Besides, as other folks have stated, if it wasn't a Wal*Mart store the young gal was buying the firearm at, she'd have gone somewheres else.

I post this delicately, but I do hope the parents are "just" expressing their anger and will drop the suit if and when they come to their senses. Death is hard, unexpected death is harder and suicide is a just a son of a biatch to deal with, especially if it is your own child. In addition, she suffered from one of the toughest mental illnesses that a person can have, well two of them and that, in and of itself, can be a nightmare when dealing with a loved one. Bipolar disorder has the highest suicide rate among all mental illnesses and although you may think of one as "crazy", a chemical imbalance will not prevent one from getting what they think is the absolute only answer (for example the gun and then death). If it weren't WalMart, it would have been the neighbors, or a friend, or another means to the end, or their end as they see it.

I agree, but in addition, lets not forget the lawyer. Here is a professional taking advantage of parents at their most vulnearable time. He, if anyone, should know that this is frivilous but also knows win or lose, he is going to get paid. He's taking advantage of an horrendous situation to make a buck and grab a headline or two in the process.

Wal*Mart should sue her parents and their attorney for letting their nutty daughter traumatize the corporation and their employees like this. Every personal injury trial attorney and retard who served on a jury that made a ridiculous award should be named in the suit for creating the environment in which lawsuits like this are perpetuated.
