Monster Jam coming to Hagerstown

We went to Hagerstown last year and I was disappointed. The long drive was not worth it. The amatuer local guys were more entertaining. We'll be going to an arena show next.

Any idea when they might have one? Turns out my oldest will be in Georgia the week-end of the Hagerstown show so we'll just be taking our youngest. Once the oldest finds out that we went to a monster truck show without him, he'll be mad so we'll have to do an arena one too. I checked the Verizon Center site (I'll assume that's where the show will take place) and there's a Metro stop right there. We can do that. Park at my work in Northern VA and walk to catch the metro. Might even be quicker seeing it's only a little more than an hour to get from home to work.

No one in my family was impressed with last year’s show at Hagerstown, and my family is pretty diverse. We found it a major disappointment - as long as you don’t expect much of anything you may have a good time.

If you want an exceptional experience, try checking out "Monsters On The Beach" in VA Beach VA. We've taken our son the last three years and its an incredible experience. I don't believe its on the "official Monster Jam" schedule but the city of Virgina Beach hosts the monster truck show right on the beach front and sets up bleachers on the boardwalk. All the main trucks are there (Grave Digger is always there and thats the main draw anyway), at least 8 each year, they have quad races and local guys run the "tough truck" stuff too. We took our son to the Verizon center last year for the Monster Jam and even he said afterwards he though the beach was "wayyyy cooler dad" :) They have much more room to play and get rowdy, the atmosphere is great and your in a great town for family as well. I highly recommend it. They do it every year during Mothers Day weekend and we've made a family tradition out of it now. If you're lucky enough to get a hotel on the beach front where the show is, you get to see all the shows for free, but those rooms get booked way in advance. Check it out :)

Friends of ours rave on this event - one year I'll remember early enough to plan to check it out for ourselves.

I honestly think that just seeing the monster truck he's seen on TV for years, up close and in person, will make my 6 year old's day. It's kind of a relief that my 9 year old won't be there as I can see him being really disappointed if there is not "high-flying" stunts and the sort. So, in the end, it will work out. We can see the Hagerstown show with the younger one and wait for the bigger show early next year for both kids.

We are going to the Sunday 2pm show. How long do these shows usually last? I'm sure they will have Grave Digger out last to keep fans around until the end so I'm sure traffic will be horrible if we stayed to the end. I normally get up for work at 0230 so if it's looking like it's going to be a long night, I might just take off Monday. I expect the trek from Hagerstown to Lusby to be about 3-4 hours regardless.
