The state’s budget woes continue. Now, according to new reports, legislators must cut up to $300 million—not $100 million as previously predicted—to balance the FY09 budget. MSTA’s President Clara Floyd and staff lobbyists testified on a number of school funding bills, including opposition to a thinly veiled voucher bill (SB 373/HB 812), tax credits for private school teachers (HB 1239) and the notorious "65% solution" (SB 229). If we're in a deficit and he needs to cut funding, why doesn't he cut welfare? I mean, that'd be more productive than cutting funding for the necessities.

I would be sad to learn that Maryland wasn't helping the poor undocumented immigrant workers learn how to violate federal immigration laws. We can all agree that's more important than educating the children of tax paying citizens.
