Morning Coffee

Why is it that on some days, the coffee is perfect. Smooth, rich, tastes great. And on other days, even tho you use the exact same coffee, the same amount of coffee and water, make it exactly the same way, add exactly the same amount of cream and sweetener, it just doesn't taste the same? A little... off.

I would say on those days it is perfect, you did not go to Starbucks and get a cup of burnt coffee. The other days maybe you are more at peace, surrounded by people you care about and that feeling feeds into your enjoyment of a hot cup of joe.

I find that a just-opened bag makes a delicious cuppa. We'll often make 2 pots, it's so good.

Even the next day, same bag, it's not as wonderful.

(today was a new bag morning. headed for another cup now.)

Could be psychological, who knows. Live alone, so not family surroundings. Open a fresh bag and mix it for my own blend, put it in an airtight container. One of those 'perfect' days could be days into the container, halfway thru it, so not a fresh opened bag.

Just odd, that's all.

No, there's something to it. Same reason I can put the exact same ingredients in the breadmachine in the same order at the same temperature, and get completely different results every time. Didn't account for Mars being in retrograde or something.

The cream ages? Affecting the taste of the coffee?

Plus don't brush your teeth until after having the coffee. Toothpaste affects taste.

Different clean, dishwasher washed cups daily. However, the same cup could taste different on different days. Can't draw a correlation there, but a good thought.

Two things I found that affect the coffee dramatically. One is how long the package has been opened. The faster you use the better off you are.

The second is the water. I only use filtered water out of the Britta pitcher or zero water pitcher in the coffee pot and the Keurig.

A lot of times if I get a pot that tastes a little flat, the next pot I add an extra scoop to make it touch stronger

I use an in-line filter system under the sink.
Like I said above somewhere, I open and mix the coffee with a maple blend, then put it in an airtight container. Working from that container, one day could be off, the next fine, the next off, etc... so I don't think it's aging.

It's probably not the coffee, probably just me sensing it differently for whatever reason. Maybe something I ate the night before...
