Morning Incident that's bothering me

I never really gave this much thought until this morning when I witnessed this on Rt 235. The Hollywood rescue squad ambulance was sent on a call and it had to WAIT to get out into traffic. The fire department has a light that will stop traffic, but the rescue squad doesn't. That bothers me. I really can't think of any rescue squad that has the light. Shouldn't they?

Are you sure it had to wait, or was traffic backed up to where it couldn't actually move w/out cars entering the intersection?

Doin the duty for you....
all to often...

This seems to be a repeated incidence lately. I know there are a lot of people lately that are totally oblivious to any emergency vehicles comming up behind them. Most of the time its because people are either on their cell phone or have their windows up and radio cranked so they don't hear us coming. Driving an emergency vehicle really puts yuour defensive driving skills to good use..

I've noticed, too, that sometimes I can't even hear sirens when my radio is turned down low. And if it's the middle of the day and you're driving down the road, you can't see any blinking lights coming at you. :ohwell:

Traffic wasn't backed up but it goes at a high speed in that area and people did finally get to slow down enough to stop traffic and let him in.

I just think there should either be a light to stop traffic or maybe a flashing light 1/2 mile in advance that goes on when a ambulance is about to leave the rescue squad.

Oops, I misunderstood your first post; I didn't realize they were leaving the actual building. In that case, I've typically seen someone stand in the street blocking traffic.
