Mother loses mind over local Driving School Fiasco

The owner of my son's driving school called tonight. Some little rodent in his class stole a very expensive peice of equipment from him tonight. He has called the Police and they are investigating.

What does a normal Mom say??? I shared my life experiences regarding my older baby and promised to rip my kid from his bed and strip search him.

Which I did.

Now I love my babies and Jared is an angel... Never gives me He!!. Except, that one time when he punched his older brother in the eye socket..... But anyway - What is the appropriate response? Should I have been livid at the mere mention my beloved could do such a thing?

I felt this mans fury... For a moment, I wasn't 100% sure GG wasn't involved. Is this the begining of the end? Have I jumped so far off the deep end I can't see straight?

I dunno.... What would you have done? When I told a close friend she flipped out! Me? I strip searched my kid and all of his belongings. :frown:

I would have done the same..Teenagers do stupid things all the time just to try and get away with it. I haven't lost the memories of the totally stupid things I did during the 13 to 19 yr old range.

Trust, but verify.

One night at about midnight, John Law came knocking at my door.

"Ma'am, do you have a teenage son?"
"Errr...yes..."

Said there were some vandalisms going on in the neighborhood and he saw a young man run down the hill behind our house.

"Is your son home in bed?"
"I sure hope so. Let me check..."

Anyway, Young Douglas was in bed and solidly asleep when I flipped on his light. Whew. But I was definitely looking for signs that he was faking it.

So, Kain, I don't think the strip search was out of line. Again - trust, but verify.

:yeahthat:There's an old line that puts it more simply - "Inspect what you expect."

See, this would have been the PERFECT opportunity to have John Law come in, rip him outta bed, hold him up against the wall by the throat and interogate him. Even if he WAS innocent, you can bet your sweet ass he'd think twice before ever making himself guilty. I'm all about being 'proactive'. :yay:

I agree with Vrai. :yay: I don't see where you reacted wrong. It seems to me that the parents that blindly go around believing their child does no wrong - EVER, end up with MUCH egg on their face down the road. All teenagers tend to have moments of "judgement lapse."

:yeahthat: I would have given my kid the 3rd degree too, Kain.

I had a similar situation. I ran downstairs with my heart racing to verify that my angels were in bed. Then I allowed myself to come to their defense. No matter how much you think they wouldn't do it... ya never know with teenagers!

I feel sorry for the Driving School instructor, but beyond that, what's the big deal? I'd find out for sure if my kid did it or not and move on. In my case I would've been satisfied by asking the kid very pointedly if he/she took it (knowing he/she didn't) and then asking if he/she knew who did. After that, it's move-on time.
