Motorcycle video cam

Saw a discussion on a couple of different bike specific video cams.
First is $88 and the second is $350.
Resolution is the same for both.

I wonder why anyone would want to sit in front of a tv and watch a movie of the road coming at you? You could be out actually doing it. Or at least it could be interactive so you could play like you were riding. (Nintendo)

Picture a winter afternoon, 18 degrees outside, light snow falling, fire crackling in the fireplace. You kick back with your favorite adult beverage and pop in the DVD of your run down the Blue Ridge Parkway from last summer.
.. or it might be fun to show vacation pictures that can make some of your friends carsick

It's so you have a documented history of those "offsite landings" or the idiot that pulled out in front of you...

I got a cheap JVC camcorder and an external bullet cam.
i heard that was a good setup as well.... knew a couple guys that used the bullet cam...

also, i always thought the helmet cams were better than the bike mounted cams because you could turn your head to record the scenery...

Ok, now this is a hoot! I had a 1Gb card, so that was good for about 31 minutes at hi res. I ran from Town Creek over to Solomons and back, 28 minutes.

Things I learned:
Do not mount the camera on the forward crash bars. The engine mechanic noise overpowers the mike.
Twilight confuses the metering: it correctly meters the sky, but anything lower is too dark.
If you mount the camera crooked, your movie will be crooked too.

On the good side, the quality was great! I was expecting a lot of vibration, especially where I had it mounted, but it was WAY better than I had hoped for.

Down side, the SD card can only be formatted in FAT16, not FAT32, so the biggest card you can use is 2Gb, about 1 hours at best res. If you sacrifice some quality, you can have record times as much as 4-5 hours.

All in all, a great toy for $88 delivered!

Thanx for the heads-up APS!
