Moving near La Plata

Hi,

I'm going to be moving somewhere in Southern Maryland in May to attend school at SMCC. I'm looking for suggestions of neighborhoods/areas that would be good for a 23/Male. I'm looking to rent a house (or maybe an apartment). I like to bike and run and wouldn't like to be too far away from La Plata (30-45 min). I would also like to be close to music/coffee shops and that sort of thing. I was even looking to find something on the coast where I'd be close to the water (Golden Beach?...too touristy???).

Anyone have any suggestions, or other places I should be looking?

Thanks,

S

Jersey attitude.
Well, I'd suggest Waldorf, as you may find a townhome for rent in a nice area (Dorchester or Hampshire neighborhoods). THere are parks close by, and in these neighborhoods there are bike trails you could run on. Quick drive to LaPlata (about 15 mins tops) and there are all sorts of coffee places around Waldorf (Panera, Starbucks, etc, etc) plus a quick drive to LaPlata and you can go to the Brewhouse.

LaPlata has some sections where there are townhomes and a few apartment/condo type places. Where are you coming from? It would not take but a day to visit around in LaPlata and Waldorf and see what you'd like. I can give you a ball park for town homes in Waldof - $1200 and up a month for newer ones, about $800-$1000 for older ones.

As far as water, sorry dude. But the Waldorf neighborhoods have sweet little lakes. ANd Gilbert Run Park has a big lake and some nice trails. Best of luck in your search!

What is SMCC? Do you mean The College of Southern Maryland?

Golden Beach is all residential, and mostly older residential (as in the houses are older, not the people). No self respecting tourist would be caught dead there. No I am NOT slamming G.B., I have seen a couple of houses I wouldn't mind having in there.

huntr1: SMCC = Southern Maryland Community College. And thanks for the explanation on Golden Beach.... ;) Golden beach just has a touristy sounding ring to it...no? ;)

The Southern Maryland Enterprise may have listings as well...but obviously since you arent in the area you won't have access to it. If you know anyone in the area, get them to send you one. Try out this link

Do NOT move to Waldorf. It will take you 20 minutes to travel 5 miles. Oh, and it's ghetto. :ohwell: I highly recommend White Plains, La Plata or farther south. You could even move to King George, VA and have a 20 or so minute commute to College of Southern Maryland. :yay:
