Actually, you want to see what this area is like goto Walmart around 10am-3pm

That's when the locals come out. Just don't get between one and whatever it is she is shopping for. Some of the local walmart carts now have tow hitches so they locals can add extra carts, you know, to fill up.

And is it just me or is the average person in SOmd as fat as a cow?

I'll be moving from Macon, GA. At times, I live in Atlanta, GA for work. I do enjoy the city life (being 27 male), but i also don't mind a small town quietness. I definitely look into Hickory Hills, Abberly Crest, few available rentals in Lusby, and Wildewood. All you guys have been very helpful. I know someone replied about people being rude in "The Park", but so far you all guys seems very koo and helpful. Thanks!

Southern MD doesn't have the nightlife that Atlanta has, that's for sure. If you really miss the nightlife once you get here, you'll have to do to DC or Balitmore. But it beats Macon by a landslide IMO. There's much more going on here than in Macon. I've spent a decent amount of time travelling to Macon for work and I love it here, compared to there. And you'll feel right at home because you'll still hear "Ya'll" on a daily basis!

Warning! Be very careful driving around MD especially SoMD. DWIs and DUIs are a growth industry here, not too mention the fines are astronomical.
Do yourself a favor and find a designated driver before you meet one our local finest.
The drivers here vary between obnoxious to rude with a lot of attitude thrown in so keep an eye out and your head on a swivel.
Stay alert, stay alive.

:yeahthat: That may be the best advice given yet in this thread. We moved to somd from NY about 9 months ago. I've never seen so many DUI's in my life in one county. Last year, there were over 800 DUI arrests in Calvert. This is a very small county, compared to what I'm used to. Hubby & I have been pulled over 3x for random checks. For the past few months, we only drink at home. We're scared outta our minds to even have a couple of drinks with dinner. When my friends drive down to visit from DC, I tell them to either choose a DD or stay overnight.

we lived in Hickory Hills for 6 months while our house was being built (and we'd sold the one in Calvert). they had a pool (which my kids loved), playground, clubhouse (wth gym) etc. i thought the rent was reasonable and it was very convienent to work and other places. before that, my DH lived in HH before we were married for several years, which is why we went back for the 6 months we were building....

HTH!

Yea, i'm deciding between Wildewood and Hickory Hills. I've also found a place in Solomons Island (rent a room with all util included), but its 1200...maybe they'll provide three meals a day too. Overall, california/hollywood/LP seems safer place than where I am now. I look forward to eating many crab cakes in Maryland. I hope there's a good place to buy wine :)

NOT Politically Correct!!
I've lived in Lexington Park for over 4 years now and we have had zero issues. 7 minutes to work and I live in a great subdivision off Herman ville Road. Just stay off Great Mills Road after dark and you'll be fine...:coffee:

A lot of people will tell you Blue Wind Gourmet, but you can get the same stuff at International at a better price, and if they don't have what you're looking for, they'll get it.
