The Wiki article says "estimated" 1100 immigrants which is kinda true. The first wave was about 1100. When another 1000 showed up and bankrupt the city's welfare system, heating oil assistance program and packed the section 8 housing and caused the crime rate to skyrocket, the mayor sent the letter to the Somali leaders telling them to discourage any more immigrants to Lewiston. Then the mamby pamby crowd got all pizzy and the demonstrations started. The Somali's and their supporters created a huge stink in the city that graciously hosted and kept them alive. They imagined injustice and screamed every turn. The white supremacist involvement is unfortunate but it does not take away from the root problem.

I bet there are a lot of dogs named Mohammed there.

If that is indeed the case then I'd support stopping immigration there. Were they legal immigrants? Just curious. Either way, blanketing a religion and taking petty shots at their god won't accomplish anything.

Relatives in Lewiston/Auburn.
The Somali pop is really straining a state (county) which has had almost constant economic recession. The whole idea of importing Muslim refugees to a depressed area in a VASTLY different culture & climate was profoundly stupid....but once again, it is a democrat run state.

I saw very few Somalis while there...heard positive stories of their efforts in school. But assimilation ...may take 2 generations or more. I still think they would be happier to have stayed put and had some District established by the UN supervising them...but when was the last time the UN did anything right?

after reading the Pro Somali article...one must ask, Have we invited locusts to make full use of the fruit of our land and when they have stripped it after a couple years, they "sahan" out to other communities to see where they will get the most benefits?

Reminds me of an incident up there:
A Somalian was pushing his shopping cart through a check out at Walmart and with a bright smile, he ignored the check-out clerk and says
"George Bush Pay...George Bush Pay!"...and tried to walk out of the store.

And the former Mayor of Lewiston is stunned by the anti-Somalian reaction with some of the oddist logic...yet again: it makes perfect sense to a Democrat.

Gee, Canada is looking pretty ripe with its socialism,...I wonder how long before they decide to "sahan" up there and scout out further benefits?
