Mva Fines

Hello all,I am new here. I just found out today I - or my husband rather - has over 8,000.00 in MVA fines due to insurance violations on two vehicles from years ago. We just bought a new car unaware of this and have a temp. 60 day tag. Obviously,we should not be in this position, but we are,so what are some options? I cannot pay all of this at once here, and need the car for work,kids,etc..does the MVA take payments? Would having my husband place the vehicle in my name be an option - bear in mind we are financing the new vehicle if that has any bearing.

You would have to call MVA and discuss payment arrangments w/ them. I am pretty sure they do it on a case to case basis.

Did you call your prior insurance carrier to see if they could pull up records to see if maybe there was some sort of error made?

You can make payments on it.. You have to go up the road to do this...MVA offices dont not handle this matter... You wont get tags from the dealership, you will have to get them on your own... Good Luck

they will send you to the central collection agency located in Largo. They will require you make a down payment and monthly payments. I have a friend that just paid his off, he owed nearly 12,000 and it's taken him nearly 7 years to pay it off. They also charge interest the entire time they are collecting the money from you.

Good luck, you're gonna need it.

You will need to pay a percent down and monthly payments. Call them and they will direct you where to go. I believe you have to go to the GlenBurnie office and sign paperwork and agree to the plan. I think it was 33% down, but don't quote me on that. It's been awhile.

And you will have to re-inspect the vehicle after the 90 days, if you dont get it straight by then...

I'm surprised your taxes haven't been intercepted for this amount or at least some.. They can and will do it...

They don't always tell you until you have a HUGE bill. Years ago my hubby got rid of a truck, did not turn the tags in and they had almost the 2 full years on it. About 5 or 6 years later we got socked with a $5000 bill. Not a peep for all the years before that.

Isn't it already in his name through the dealership? If so I'm not sure how you will get around that...

Yea Right
The person who buys the car and the person who has it insured have no common ground...Ex

Hubby and Wife buy the car, insurance can be in his name...her name...there kids name, there brothers name...bla bla bla

Note* don’t put it in your kids name...lol...seriously one of my girlfriends mom (who is now in prison for 8 mandatory for this) actually put 4 different cars into her daughters name...she was only 7 AND 9 years old at the time...don’t ask how or why, but winch got away with it for YEARS, my friend is now 24 and still cleaning the mess

I think the loan would require your name only. If you are both financing it, you'll have to find a way to get his name off.

To clarify the situation...the car is in my husbands name only, and th violation with the MVA is in his name only. Can he sell me - or anyone in our family for that matter - the vehicle, and have it titled in thier name...but wouldn't the lienholder be notified by the MVA? How does that work? I can't exactly ask the MVA because I doubt they would tell me..

You have a lien so it has to be payed off before you can sell the car... I think thats right.. So unless your going to pay it off just to sell it to get it tagged your screwed.. Go make payments on the fine and get your tags!!

What kind of jack booted bullshiat extortionist governmental policy is it that people are allowed to rack up thousands of dollars worth of fines unknowingly?
