MVA (Loveville) Help/Question

So, I took my teenager to the Loveville MVA today for his driving road skills test. We were disqualified for a check engine light on. ugh. Registered for todays test with MD MVA online system back in first week of February. Was told today after disqualification to go back online and register again for upcoming available test times. Checked all over the state of Maryland. Loveville MVA actually had one of "more timely" dates of late May. Does anyone know if/how MVA handles cancellations/no shows for driving test? Does that slot open up and is now available if we were to say just walk in? I am assuming there must be daily no shows/cancellations at the MVA...what happens to those test slots? Thoughts on how to somehow get registered for an earlier time slot vs late May? Tried calling Md MVA, busy signal for hours. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Appreicate it, thanks!!!

Their web page says that they are by appointment only. I would say that pretty much sums it up as to walk ins.

You need to go back in the site as often as you want, if someone cancels that date and time will open up.

How can one be disqualified for a check engine light?! Its not like you're out on the open road endangering anyone when your engine quits and demands to be checked. This is a driving skills test, not a mechanical inspection. If this had happened to me I wouldn't need a driver's license, I'd be in jail.

I remember I tried to take my test with a small crack in the windshield, on the passenger side. Nope, had to go borrow someone else's car.

Since the inspector has no way to know what the check engine light is on for, they have no way to know if it's indicating an unsafe condition.

They do go on the road at Loveville, down through Leonardtown.

Youngest son took the test last April with a Low Coolant light on (sensor is bad, car is a 2002 that had 210K or so on the odometer at the time). Told the tester, all she said was that if the car overheated during the test that he'd fail and have to come back.

Yea.. not that easy anymore. You have to cancel your appointment before you can search for a new date. I just went through this. Kid failed- do over was 6 weeks away, according to the site. Checked the site thoroughly, once you are booked, you're stuck, unless you want to cancel and search again. I wouldnt want to lose my place in line, so I chose to just wait the 6 weeks.

They suck. When first kid took it, he passed right away but the girl in front of him didnt. She went to the counter and made an appointment for a few days later. No clue why they are so booked these day... less appointment slots? Not sure:shrug:

The safety check is PART OF the entire test process. It's listed as a requirement and is in the handbook as to what to expect when you test. It was all included in the paperwork that Thing2 received from his Driver's Education course, also.

I read this in the paperwork before Thing2 went to take his test and realized that my windshield washer which was on the fritz would have to be fixed. So we (Foxhound, and Thing2) fixed it first.

I just took my son to Waldorf this past week but I made the appt months ago. It was the first available. As for Loveville, if the older lady is still there run the other way. She is notorisously known for failing teen drivers on their first attempt. When I took my 2nd kid there for hers, she was 4th in line and all 4 failed. I was watching her and she attempted the parallel. Started backing up - did not hit any cones, etc - looked like she was actually doing great and next thing I know she pulled up and out and drove around - Failed. I made an appt for the next day in Glen Burnie and she aced it (5 yrs ago)

Well... the fact that yours is the 8th post in the thread and almost half of those posts talk about FAILING the test and needing to do it over should give you an idea.....

My son had a lady Driver test examiner. Not sure if she was the oldest, didn't seem to be older than I am. (56 in a month) Not only did he pass, but she congratulated me on his driving ability and said I should be proud.

**I was just happy to hear he passed, (so we didn't have to do that all over again!) but to receive a bit of credit for it was nice, too.

On the road testing is now "on the road". So the car must pass a quick inspection, have proof of insurance, and at least 1/2 tank of gas.

As for rescheduling/no shows, cancellations - I think that rarely happens.

The testing takes longer as the test involves actual "on the road" testing.

People don't want to see little Jonny fail on the first attempt, I thought the old lady was pretty fair, she does look intimidating. I taught 3 people how to drive and one thing two of them failed on were once they get in the cones for parallel they did not get close enough and the lady wanted them worm there way closer to the curb. This I did not teach them because I had them back in with one shot to where there was no need for adjustment. Second time they went back not a problem worming in. Drivers test can rattle a teen’s nerve a bit. Ya'll leave the old lady alone, she does her job pretty good IMO.

areUrite? Personally I dont think so... its not like they all fail these days but didnt 5 years ago when my first took his test

Maybe its what someone else said- more 'on the road' to the test these day (tho first son went on the road- so again, not sure)

Maybe budget cuts has less test being given per week. Maybe population in this town continues to grow past the resources available at any given public entity.

Maybe I'll just stick with the fact I DONT KNOW. A thread about failing a road test =/= more kids fail these days in all of MD.

avoid that place when possible, those people act like they hate their jobs.. and not all of them, but most would be better suited working a grill at your local mcdonalds.

I have been there plenty of times and never saw an attitude, but very little smiling. DMV must be a serious place to work at, maybe they should paint the walls pink.

In my opinion, you get what you give in any dealings. Rule one for MVA is don't be in a hurry. Take a book, magazine, or just people watch. I always greet my agent with a smile and kind word. You'd be suprised how far that will get you.

Agree, has always worked for me. Have had good luck at the Annapolis and Waldorf DMV before, have never had anything but a bad time at the Largo DMV, have actually walked out and driven up to Annapolis to take care of business, it may be better now, i have never been back to the largo dmv.
