MVA online renewal

They got me on a trailer issue too. I had a boat trailer in NY with no tags. I was now living in MD, went to MVA to get MD tags. They wouldn't do it, had to have an inspection first in MD. But the trailer is in NY, how do I get it to MD to get it inspected?? Catch 22. After an eternity talking to no one with brains, one bright light said, "Well, we can do a 'hold title'. We'll give you tags but no title. When you get to MD, you get it inspected and then we'll give you your title." ??? You couldn't have told me that an hour ago???

I have never understood how MD can tax you on vehicals you have already been taxed on in another state. It cost us a FORTUNE to register all of our cars when we moved here!

Also got me on an insurance thing too. Got a real nastygram from MVA. Had to prove we had insurance on a car. Got the info from the insurance agent, mailed it to MVA. A month later, another nastygram. Did it again, made sure everything was right. ANOTHER nastygram. Went down in person with all the correct forms and info, and they STILL disputed it. Turns out that when whomever at MVA typed the insurance info into their IBM terminal, they reversed an 'O' with a '0', and it was absolutely indistinguishable on the printed forms. No matter what we could have tried, it would never have matched. I finally caught a glimpse of her terminal and saw a slash through a 'O' and realized it was a '0'. Made them fix it and issue us new paperwork.

Yours is not to understand. Yours is to write checks.

Do some google. You can register some things in other states. But, you did not hear that from me. :buddies:

Well I believe they can only tax you on vehicles you either A. Paid no tax on, or B. Paid a tax less than what you would have paid here. I can almost see A only because we are next to DE and they have no sales tax and people would just drive to DE and buy cars, but not B.

You should have been shot for interfering with state business.

I did that for years. Used my parents address. Went to the NY DMV with my MD license and my dad's address and registered a trailer there. I remember the girl behind the counter.... it was when new license styles were just coming out. She picked up mine and held it up and shouted across the room to her friend.... I figured oh boy.... I'm spending the night in jail... she shouts to her friend "HEY! Have you seen the new MD licenses yet? Here, look at this!! Aren't they neat??"

Never a word about using an out-of-state license for an in-state registration.... I got my tags.

So I noticed my bike registration runs out 31 May and I am puzzled because I didn't get the notice. O went to MVA website and put in the info and it said "vehicle cannot be renewed online" I have before  Only difference is it is paid off this time. does that make a difference?

I am pretty sure it has to be on the day it expires or the day after, I have never been able to renew before the tag expires.

I didn't catch this.... Seems to me I remember that you can't renew online within 15 days of the expiration or something.....
or maybe that was by mail...

When she starts wringing her hands, hunching her shoulders, and is beset by quiet snickers that escalate into howls of evil laughter ... please record and put it on youtube.

I've renewed registrations after the expiration date by going to their website. You even get to print out a temp reg.

I have no idea what that feels like. I have dedicated my life to last minute solutions to self created problems and come out smelling like a rose. If this happened to me, I'd be pulled over on June 1 by a state trooper hand delivering my new registration and a check for $100 I had over paid 10 years ago.

It's a gift. I don't ask why. I just say 'thank you' and tip well.

Some day all this flying by the seat of your pants, speeding ticket avoidance and last minute hotel getting will catch up with you.

:nono:
