My cat caught on fire

Dakota

She's okay but lost hair on her tail. She jumped on a table where I had a candle lite and her tail immediately went up in flames. It was very frightening. I had to grab her and toss her in the sink, rinse her off and now her tail is singed. I've had cats all my life and I have never had anything like this happen nor have ever known anyone to have it happen.

Crap... :ohwell:

Holy crap! That is just nuts! Good thing you were there when it happened... not only would she have kept burning but she would have set stuff on fire as she freaked out!

Gives a whole new meaning to "running like a cat with it's tail on fire"...:ohwell:

It gives her character.

On the day of her wedding my girlfriend was trying to keep her cat out of the rooms the bridesmaids were in because of allergies. She accidentally shut the cat's tail in the door and chopped part of it off. Maybe over time (evolution) their tails will grow shorter.

Sorry to hear about your kitty, glad she's okay.

When will your trauma be diminished sufficiently so we can start making jokes?

That was the reaction of the men who were outside yapping and ran in when they heard us inside scream...

CATS ON FIRE...CATS ON FIRE...

Of course, they held the laughter in until they saw the crises was over and everyone (including kitty) was okay. I'm wondering if I should snip the singed hair off??? It looks horrible and sickly.

I would think you need to put on some kind of ointment and bandage if you see skin damage... burned skin is open to infection.

It was just the fur and not the skin that was burned right? It will probably fall out and new hair will grow in.

JUST fur... (fluffy Maine Coon so she had a lot of fur to burn) she never yelped or anything... and when feeling around the tail afterwards... she was irritated because she was wet but not in pain.

I'll bet your house smells lovely right now...

It has been 2 hours since it happened and I can still smell the burnt hair. :dead:

I just cannot BELIEVE this happened... just that entire 'what if' I was outside or something when it happened? She could have easily caught the house on fire.

I sucked up my cats tail in the vacuum once. Went up around the beater brush like a piece of string would have done. Needless to say, she is terrified of the machine now..... bad mommy.

OMG

FireBrand,

She has managed to disappear from the downstairs, hiding somewhere around here... and as she has gotten older, she sees the camera and runs, now.

Sad part is, I can definitely see my cat doing the same thing with a candle. She's not real smart:crazy:

We had company come in the door and she just had to great them... so she jumped on the table... it happened so quick. Her tail went up in FLAMES... I have hanging candle holders so I'll be using them instead of leaving ones lite that she can get to.

The poor flaming Feline! I'm glad you were there too, otherwise, it could have been a disaster. What a freakish thing to have happen. Thanks for posting, because I would have never thought something like that could happen. I have Candles & Cats!!
