My computer is loud

Hopefully you don't have your tower on the floor. I just found out that is a big no no. I put mine on top of the desk now and not nearly as much dust and cat hair get in it. Who knew? :shrug:

Yea its bad how long people let their PCs go without cleaning them out. I know after working on a few pcs that even after a month or so it gets clogged right up if its on the floor. My is up on a cabinet now. Its alot easier to clean the radiators now

Nope, but that's exactly what it sounded like.

Note the past tense - Bob was right. The vents were crudded up, so I popped the case and gave it a cleaning. So quiet now!

We see this all the time...

If it sits directly on the ground, try to elevate it up on a stand or preferably on top of the desk.

Sitting on the ground will suck dust-bunnies right in and blow them over the components acting like an insulator keeping heat on the components... the computer asks for more cooling and the fans run to high heaven trying to cool it down. Or, it will clog the fan and you will have the problem you had.

Quarterly, open it up and blow it out... it is a pain in the azz, but well worth it to save headaches down the road.

Thanks - I'll check that. It doesn't do it all the time, it's more of a revving up, then gets quiet, then revs up again.

yeah it does that when working harder .... then slows down again

Dells are good for this.

Nope - but you knock the baffles out and go with straight pipes, then it becomes a different beast!

Sounds like a jet taking off. I was on the phone with a client and she was like, "What IS that???" It also pegs out a lot.

This hard drive is less than a year old - any ideas what it might be?
