my dog is gross~please help!

My doberman eats his poo..:barf:..and has done for a well now..trust me he not hungry..nor sick...he is 100% housebroken...but everytime he is let out in the fence to do business..as soon as he is done..he will eat if i am not there to stop him...any input would be great..I love my dog..but this is just insane!!

You can put brewers yeast (lack of Vitamin B) or pineapple juice (makes the poo taste like crap to them) on their food - in a day or two they will stop eating it.

D for Dog - Dogs that eat poo - Coprophagia

In My Opinion
My dog used to eat the cat's poop as well as her own. We lived in Alaska and she would chow down on the frozen poop which we referred to as "poopcicles." She lived to be 16 so it obviously didn't hurt her but it was gross! Just love em anyway...

my chi used to order the cat box sampler when he was a puppy, every now and again he would come running into the living room with a "crushed peanut coated tootsie roll" in his mouth

I referred to him as
litter lips
tootsie tounge
the turd burgler
and other things that used to get me panned.

Our Shepherd will do that - I call her the Turd Burglar also. :killingme

That's funny! I like the turd burgler the best!

my dog doesnt eat her own...if there is bunny poop in my yard she loves it! Gross I know...I asked the vet and she said to be honest its normal and it just means they picked up a nasty habit. I thought it was because maybe she is lacking something in her diet but apparently not!

dogs eat cat poop because cats do not fully digest their food, so it is like eating food to them. I would catch my lab doing it and she would have little stuck all in her teeth.

My husky eats from the cat's litter box. I can tell when she's done it because she has litter on her nose.

Neither do dogs, humans, or most other mammals and therin is why dogs are attracted to it. We smell $hit, they smell nutrional content. :barf: My cat box is behind a closed door with a kitty door! :lmao: The dog's breath is bad enough without the kitty mints!

My dog rolls all over bunny and deer poop. I haven't seen her eat it but am not kissing her on the lips anymore regardless :lmao:

my dog used to do that as well...I asked our vet and trainer about it. the solution we used was a product called Coprophagia. it is sold at Petco in the same isle as the tooth brushes and supplements and such...I believe it was on the top shelf. it is just the Petco brand. its a tab that you give to them once a day. I kept my dog on it for about a month and then i took him off of it and he hasn't done it since :)

Coprophagia is the veterinary term for an animal eating it's own feces.
Lowry's meat tenderizer on the food discourages dogs from such behaviour.
Male animals (intact) often eat feces to hide where they and their herd have been.YUCK!!

Had a covered cat litter box and my lab(Doozer best dog ever!!!) got his head stuck in it, more than once!!! and always had the " I didn't do it mom" look on his face after being extracted:lmao:
