my dog is making weird noises

If she's doing it from the nose/throat it's post nasal drip and the dogs way of clearing its throat. My vet called it a reverse sneeze.

it sounds just like when you hock a loogie... the initial sucking in noise.

Best to take it in (if it gets worse or lingers.) If its any help when they did a price check by calling other vets on procedures they were the lowest on everything (at least for now.)

If it is just that try, the Benadryl. My current Lab makes a similar sound as if he is clearing his sinuses. I bougt the generic Benadryl at Wal-mart, I give him two pills a day (in a piece of hot dog) when his sinuses are acting up and he does well with the pills and stops clearing his sinuses.

Does your dog have the face structure of a lab or a boxer? I have seen other boxers and similar type of dogs just have issues with how their sinuses are shaped.

I wouldn't give the dog anything unless it goes on for an extended period of time. I know I don't jump to take something every time my nose gets a little stuffy. Let the body work. If it is consistant for more than a couple weeks I'd consider medicating. My dog goes through it for a week or so when the weather changes and then is fine. Right now she's on a hunger strike most likely because of the weather. She's not interested in her food like she normally is but her energy level is up, she's still eating some and crapping fine and still begging for human food. Dogs are built a lot like we are and can get under the weather due to climate change, allergies, etc. No need to over react.

So very true! Observe and take notes to keep a log of the conditions. React if things do not improve.

My big dog does the same thing and the vet said it is actually a reverse sneeze. Nothing to worry about. My dog goes through spells and will seem to do it quite a bit one day and then will go several days without doing it anymore. Again, nothing major to worry about. Some dogs just can't sneeze normally. Mostly bigger dogs and/or dogs with short snouts.

My shih tzus reverse sneeze. However, when the old man started making a coughing sound, (but not like kennel cough, cough) I took him to the vet. He had conjestive heart failure.

If it were cujo, you know what I'd tell you you need to do. :killingme

:yeahthat:
and if you know your dog hasn't been around any others with a bit of kennel cough, I wouldn't worry. A couple of mine do it from time to time, some more this past month than usual. Unless it gets worse I would wait it out and see.

whatever - more important things to do in life than spend it on forum's making smart azz comments to people you don't even know. I knew someone had already mentioned it, I was just commenting on my experience.

Nah, I was pretty bored and it entertained me when I did it. Most important thing at that moment, me of course. :yay:

My dog is making sounds like shes trying to (for lack of a better phrase) Hock a loogie. Its been for the last couple days and its only once or twice a day but what is it? At first I thought something was stuck in her throat so I massaged it and nothing came out. she just loved the attention :) but she did it again this morning. Is this allergies maybe? Think something is still in there? She doesnt seem to care about it but I would like to fix it.
Our 7 year old Golden Retriever started the same thing (sounded like he was trying to hock a loogie or had something stuck in his throat) the week after Christmas and was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer the first week in January. The cough actually went away for a couple of days but when it came back we took him to a vet right away.
Take her to a vet soon. It could be nothing and it could be very bad.
