My dog is sick

My Jack Russell is sick and in the hospital.. 2nd day although he came home last night so he would sleep better...
At first we thought is was acepromozine toxicity because he's older (11) and that he just needed some fluids to get it out of his system. I gave him 6.2 mg. Friday night, again Sat. night and the last Sunday night. I thought it was very odd that he was still "drunk" yesterday. As of today, he broke out in hives, has a fever and is very wobbly. The vets are going to test him for Lymes even though I had him vaccinated a couple years ago for it... he has not been exposed to anything like antifreeze or anything else unusual...
I am very worried and perplexed.
Does anyone know what his symptoms might sound like?

Lyme is a shot they get yearly actually but it doesn't work all that well. My old lab was diagnosed with Ehrlichia a few months ago and I'd have bet he was a goner. He bounced right back. Ehrlichia is a tick-borne disease as well. He could hardly walk..his neck was very stiff and he couldn't hold his head up and he had a fever.

I'd take him back to vet asap.

I wouldn't count on the lyme vaccine. Get him tested and treated ASAP.

I had a foster dog that had lyme disease. A couple days after the treatment she was completely back to normal.

I hope you doggy feels better soon. :huggy:

Thanks.. .I hope so too.. I was in tears when I brought him home tonight. He's got some central nervous problems most likely caused by the Lymes.
He has a great appetite but he can't really walk very well at all. It's horrible. A week ago he was running around like normal. I am so sad. He probably got Lymes a while ago and I just didn't know it. And now it's progressed to this.
The vet says he may have had a stroke. :bawl:

So sorry he is not feeling so good...but he is a tough little guy he takes on all of those big horses, I am sure he will be ok. I am sure there was nothing you could have done...ticks are every where and sometimes the bug stuff just does not work...the only thing I could think of to get ride of the ticks are guinea hens....but those may not work with the neighbors...boy are they noisey

Do you think the hens would bother our neighbors? They aren't that loud are they?

Did they give him anything for pain? Metacam made a huge difference for my old guy. He was on antibiotics for 3 weeks but the pain meds really, really made him feel better. Might want to ask your vet.

No they didn't give pain meds.. He doesn't seem to be in pain. Just very tired.
They gave me Doxy to give him every day.

Lyme is painful..it gets in the joints. It can cause muscle spasms, especially in the neck. That made all the difference for my dog. He had Ehrlichia, but it's essentially the same thing.

Was it Rimadyl? I have a few tabs in the freezer from my late JRT... From what I recall, it made him drowsy...
