My favorite part of The Godfather...

The one thing that I felt was missing from #1(the original theater version) was the scene where Michael finally avenges Apollonia by finding(was it Carlo or the other one?)in the pizzeria and blowing it up. They added it back when (USA?) came out with that version where they tried to put #1 and #2 together chronologically; which absolutely sucked. It was the other one(name?) because Carlo was in #3. He killed the one guy using his own eyeglasses.

Getting back to GF... I think Sofia Coppola's poor acting in GF3 was more obvious, because that movie didn't have a strong ensemble cast.

Puzo's original GF novel has chapters with Johnny Fontaine and Lucy Mancini that Coppola didn't use. The scenes of Fontaine in Hollywood are unintentionally funny, because Puzo portrays the male stars as closeted gays and the female stars as boozy whores. It came across as pandering to the audience, a way of tittilating readers while making them feel morally superior.
Yeah that kinda bothered me because #3, changed the history of #1 by having Lucy get pregnant with Vincent. If they really needed new blood to carry on the name, whatever happened to Connie/Carlo's kid? I'm sure that he would have grown up like those useless Gotti kids with Connie as his mother, but it would have sat a little better in my craw. Although I really liked Andy Garcia in the part. "Bang. Zaza!!"

Fabrizio

Tonio, I disagree that Sofia stands out worse. To me, she fits right in because there's no Marlon Brando, James Caan or Robert Duval to compare her to. Connie and Kay get better with age, but they still suck way bad in the first two movies.

And the movie character of Kay aggravates me because in the book she's strong and you can see why Michael would be attracted to her. In the movie she is just beyond pathetic.

We had a Godfather weekend a few weeks ago... Watch all three in succession. First time seeing it for VV, been a few years for me.

One of the Greats. :yay: :yay: Could watch it over and over.

I can practically recite the dialogue of I.

I've seen The Godfather almost as many times as I've seen Jaws.
My stepmother is obsessed with Jaws. She watches it all the time, and often has it on for background noise when she cleans. :roflmao:

See, and I think he's the perfect wiener Fredo, especially in II when they flesh him out a bit.
Possibly - and I'm reacting the way I'm supposed to... He reminds me of a rat - that he is. was.

Didn't like Cazale as Fredo; didn't like him as Stosh in Deer Hunter either.

...hunter should not be watched by anyone; way too depressing. Bleak. Eek.

That and the Black Robe.

Ban them. Burn them.

And Angela's Ashes.

I totally disagree on Deer Hunter! But, I do have to say, De Niro does NOT look good in a ball cap (in this movie or in Jacknife).. Christopher Walken was actually HOT back in the day and the preliminary footage up to the war was pretty cool. The war footage itself was mind blowing and horrific and De Niro, yet again, wins me over. The post war footage was horrible (good horrible) as expected and the 3 + hours gripped me the entire time.

I haven't seen the other two posted.
