My friend's cat bit him

Just a normal cat bite - pissy cat acting out. He didn't think anything of it until it started blowing up around the wound and he was feeling weak. He had major sepsis and spent 3 days in the hospital.



And it's just a normal house cat, not some weird feral or anything.

Not just cats. Dogs can do it too.

They tend to carry a lot of nasty bacteria, including some versions of staph.

Staph infection - that's what it was. I couldn't pull that word up in my brain.

Yes. It's important to have the bite seen by a doctor. I've always had cats and an occasional bite, but I immediately cleaned it and used either peroxide or rubbing alcohol on it. Fortunately, I didn't need to see a doctor for infection.

Mom on the hand did get bit and got an infection. Dr put her on antibiotics to clear it up.

Yup. That's why after any scratch from a cat, or tooth scratch from a dog, (usually from rough housing play with it), I put iodine on it to kill any possible bacteria.

This is what I use and have on standby .... Also put a couple of drops in coffee for thyroid benefit.

My aunt got scratched by her cat right after Christmas. She cleaned it well, etc...but the next morning it was very infected and painful so she went to urgent care. Since she had also not been feeling well in general for several weeks before this (cold/flu symptoms) they went ahead and did a full blood panel. Long story short, she's lucky she got cat scratch fever, because if that hadn't happened she wouldn't have gone to a doctor when she did and discovered she has leukemia! Because of the cat it was caught early and she is already in remission.

To tell ya the truth, I have no clue if it involved the rabid kitten the wife fostered until we found out it was rabid. All of us(5) had to go the shots after we found out it was rabid. Always heard horror stories about the shots (4 or 5), really wasn't that big a deal, 3 kids(10, 8, 3) went thru them without a major problem.

That's crazy! But not unheard of. My grandmother's GSD kept sniffing one of her breasts. Lo and behold, she had cancer. She passed because of Pagets disease at the age of 60.

Between 20 and 25, think you were 10 or 11 when I met ya. Maybe the way the story was told had you thinking it was recent, thats the only rabies story I know of.

Cats mouths are nasty, my grandfather died at 91, which is young for his side of the family, due to a MRSA infection he got from a bite from his wife's Chihuahua.
