My Goofy Boy Scout

My boy, who really did not enjoy Cub Scouts all that much for a year or 2 there, crossed over to Boy Scouts last month. He is SO excited about being a Boy Scout. I bought him a 1946 army mess kit off eBay and gave it to him 2 weeks ago or so. Found out last night he has been sleeping with it and his BS handbook ever since.

Boy Scouts is soooooo much different than Cub Scouts (you know that) - the boys like it that much better because it is boy led and not Mom/Dad micro-managed; they get that crap from home.

Now that I think about it, that is probably why Z REALLY likes Boy Scouts. :lmao:

The same is true for A. He has been really excited about going to the National Jamboree for over a year now....that was his main incentive in sticking with Cubs this last year and a half or so...when he was given the choice of Dad trying to get a position with the "troop" going to jamboree or else take a staff position working somewhere away from where A would be and only seeing him briefly.....

Well, that was a no-brainer.

I am looking forward to my son joining Boy Scouts. My and my husband's schedules are not open enough for him to join Cub Scout because parents are required to attend the meetings, help, etc. I have no problem helping on "our" time if he needs it for projects/etc. Between work schedules, school, and sports, there aren't enough time in the day to attend meetings. I need it so that he can be dropped off at the meeting and then picked up when it's over.

You have some faulty info. Only as a Tiger (1st grade) are parents required to be there. After that, you can drop and run, even in Cub Scouts.

Gave him his hiking backpack last night. Had to tell him "no sleeping with it in your bed."

That's great news. Maybe I'll get in touch with a group nearby and see about getting him in. Thanks!!
